Theater Camp Report: Stage Left Children's Theater

Show-Score | Aug 15, 2017
If your camper loves musicals, look no further--Stage Left Children's Theater has the summer camp for you!

Tell us a bit about Stage Left’s summer camps. What do your programs offer and what does a typical session look like?

We offer six separate camps, each built around rehearsing and performing a musical production— “Annie Jr.”, “The Wizard of Oz”, “You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown”, “The Sound of Music”, and “Bye Bye Birdie”. The sixth camp session is entitled Theater Intensive and allows kids to create a Broadway revue—an evening of song and dance chosen by the campers.

At the end of the two weeks, the campers perform their show for friends and family. Parents are always thrilled to see their kids starring in a fully staged production (costumes, microphones and all) after just two weeks.

Above all, it’s a wonderfully supportive and fun couple of weeks!

Who are your teachers? What’s their background?

All our instructors are theater professionals with previous directing experience. Just as important, we look for teachers who truly enjoy interacting with and teaching kids about theater.

What kind of camper would most enjoy Stage Left’s summer programs?

The ideal camper is a child that loves to sing, act, and dance. No background in theater is needed (and no audition required). We’ll guide them through the entire rehearsal and performance process.

What is your goal for each camper—what do you hope they get out of their camp experience?

Our mission is to help children develop enthusiasm, confidence, self-esteem, communication, and social skills. We want them to leave us with fond memories of the work they did, with a sense of achievement, and with a newfound confidence in their own creativity.

And, of course, we hope they’ll form new and lasting friendships with their fellow campers!

What’s the cost of the program?

Each session is $700 with an additional $40 registration/insurance fee. We do offer scholarships for in-need campers—contact us for more information.

What else should parents know about registering?

We’re almost finished with our camps for this year, but for parents looking ahead to next summer, camps open for registration in December—and we offer $50 off per camp for everyone who registers by April 23.

Any Stage Left grads currently starring on Broadway?

We have plenty of backstage stars—many of our alumni are in the theater business as stage managers, talent agents, and teachers!
