Beyond Broadway
It’s quite a feat to be trending over 400 years after your death, but Shakespeare is doing just that with NAACTO’s epic two-part staging of his “Henry VI” (ShowScore: 84). Members are celebrating its “great acting” and “beautiful use of minimal staging elements.”
Enjoy the last gasps of summer, because the fall season is almost upon us! First up is The New Group’s “The True” which starts performances next week. The 70s-set political drama stars the inestimable Edie Falco (“Nurse Jackie”) and Michael McKean (“Better Call Saul”).
Broadway
Here’s some loverly news: the mega-talented Laura Benanti will be taking over the role of Eliza Doolittle in “My Fair Lady”. The gorgeous Lincoln Center revival (which was nominated for a Tony this year) has a ShowScore of 87 and one who is a particular fan called it “pure perfection.”
Speaking of revivals featuring our favorite ladies of Broadway: “Kiss Me Kate,” starring the absolutely divine Ms. Kelli O’Hara, is coming up this winter. (In fact, previews start on Valentine’s Day; how apropos is that?) You can see it with us on February 15 (belated Valentine’s Day present, maybe?) or on a couple of other great dates throughout the run.
Get ready, cause here they come. Riding a wave of praise for its “sensational music,” “Ain’t Too Proud—The Life and Times of The Temptations” is headed to Broadway. Read what critics thought of its pre-Broadway runs in Berkeley, Washington DC, and Los Angeles.
