Profound, Great staging, Great writing, Great acting, Exquisite

See it if you want to see one of Pinter's masterworks brought to life with the focus being on the script. It's beautiful in its minimalism.

Don't see it if you don't like straight plays or don't enjoy plays that use time in a non lineal way.

Great acting, Great staging, Sharp, Anguished, Riveting

See it if you're ready to eat crow after years of dismissing Pinter's time-reversed deconstruction of a love triangle. This version is quite engaging.

Don't see it if you've been cheated on recently. This British import plucks the titular theme's chord repeatedly and assuredly. (Yes, I shed a few tears.) Read more

"While 'Betrayal' thrives on Pinter's extraordinary writing and minimalist storytelling, this production exceeds those boundaries...Cox and Hiddleston are magnificent...[as is] Ashton's stunning performance as Emma, who seems to waver between strength and the verge of breakdown."

"A triangle built with a ballet-like precision within a circle against a long rectangular wall. This is the essence of this masterful revival. They are poised for interaction from that first visual, one by one, in pairs (for the most part), as directed with tight thoughtfulness by the gifted Jamie Lloyd."

"I'd be content to see the play once a decade, and I saw the last Broadway revival just six years ago..The latest…restores the British reserve. It's nearly an understatement to call the production minimalist…The cast is perfectly appealing. But their delivery is… slowly paced and at an odd remove."

"Furthermore, how Robert manages to maintain some form of his long friendship with Jerry after he discovers the affair might also mystify some audiences. Credit for that definitely goes to Cox, in the evening's best performance, who gives Jerry a bit of a lost puppy-dog quality that goes a long way to making Robert's actions believable."

"The brilliance of the acting…in Jamie Lloyd's unconventionally minimalist…staging only serves to emphasize the play's technical glitter over its emotional heartbeat…Hiddleston…is in his element…in digging into Pinter's pregnant pauses, elliptical sentences, and subtextual currents."
