Slow, Great acting

See it if you want to see a sad show... Ben Platt is great in the role too. Other than that, the show was very slow and pretty boring.

Don't see it if you want to a piece of theater that is actually impactful. This is impactful in many bad ways in my opinion... Read more

Thought-provoking, Overrated, Indulgent, Cliched, Great music

See it if You like more modern musicals with a pop/rock sound. Great songs.

Don't see it if You'd like an original story or good writing (book)

Disappointing, Entertaining, Funny, Slow, Overrated

See it if You know the show/songs already, the diction was terrible-wouldn’t have been able to understand the lyrics if I didn’t already know them

Don't see it if You’re triggered by death, especially suicide. You want a big dance heavy entertaining show.

Slow, Beautifully scored/orchestrated, Entertaining, Dated, Ambitious

See it if You want to catch the show before it exits stage right: high concept shows can succeed, and it’s worth it just to appreciate that fact alone

Don't see it if You are easily frustrated by uneven casting: the alternate, Mateo Lizcano, performed unexpectedly as Evan at my show and was badly upstaged. Read more

Profound, Great writing, Great acting, Great singing, Entertaining

See it if you are in the mood for a heavier, more emotional storyline.

Don't see it if you know the story and you've listened to the soundtrack beforehand. Having known the songs made the story less impactful for me.

Great singing, Entertaining

See it if You have kids in high school, enjoy a lovely story about a mom and a child who makes mistakes

Don't see it if Your mind wanders a lot - a number of songs felt unnecessary. Or if you are looking for contemporary theater - it’s a very standard show.
