About the show

This new Broadway musical by celebrated singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and innovative director Rachel Chavkin is a love story for today…and always. Winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical. More…

"Hadestown" intertwines two mythic tales — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone — as it invites you on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back with a story that pits industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love.

Don't see it if If you’re more traditional or if you’re bothered by new musicals. Look up the parents guide if need be. I wanted a tad more from the plot.

See it if You want to see the best new musical on Broadway. You loved Comet of 1812 [I did] this is in some ways better due to the concise story line.

Don't see it if You want to see the same old, same old musical; you loved FROZEN or Pretty Woman - this isn't for you.

Also It's brilliant - I didn't give it a 100 because I don't believe anythi... Read more Read less

Ambitious, Quirky, Great singing

See it if You like your Broadway with an indie/folk/cajun vibe. The harmonies are innovative and incredible. The voices are stunning.

Don't see it if You want a fully coherent plot. There are so many layers of metaphor here that it's hard to tease out exactly what the message is.

Exquisite, Resonant, Great staging, Excellent music

See it if You love folk music. If you saw it at NYTW, the new version has more character depth and neat choreography and is worth re-seeing.

Don't see it if you're looking for something naturalistic; this is over the top in the tradition of greek theater.

Long., Great tech!, Great staging, Great concept!, Great cast!

See it if You're ready to be blown away by a perfect cast/director/lights and costumes. It was a really fun evening.

Don't see it if I was in row G, house right and it was cold. Cold for the entire show, which is why I gave this an 85 instead of 100. Also, it's long.
