About the show

This new Broadway musical by celebrated singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and innovative director Rachel Chavkin is a love story for today…and always. Winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical. More…

"Hadestown" intertwines two mythic tales — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone — as it invites you on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back with a story that pits industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love.

See it if Want to see something unique, different, full of energy and sorrow where almost every lead singer and chorus members is a STAR

Don't see it if dislike antic Greek names, legends, prefer ancient clothes, not the leather coats and suspenders.Want to see less action and more tragedy.

Also Some songs hard to understand lyrics (performed by male characters); R... Read more Read less

Indulgent, Excruciating, Disappointing, Cliched

See it if (S)Hadestown is so aware of its artistic vision and execution. The story is old and music is bland, meanwhile the acting is quite good.

Don't see it if The biggest head scratcher is that this overrated Tony winner won best set over Beetlejuice.

Refreshing, Romantic, Must see, Interesting vocal choices, Great staging

See it if you like non traditional musicals. smart, dark story -telling, a bit jazzier than the orig NYTW prod. love a good greek myth retelling

Don't see it if you don't like tragedies or unconventional shows - this is not a show that leaves you smiling and toe tapping but it is beautiful & romantic

Great staging, Overrated, Ambitious, Clever, Absorbing

Repetitive, Great singing, Slow, Overrated, Disappointing

See it if You get the album and like the music. This just wasn’t for me.

Don't see it if You don’t like things with turntable stages and a thousand reprises. This just wasn’t for me.

95
Must see, Great staging, Clever, Absorbing, Enchanting

See it if You want to see a loosely structured story displayed in amazing staging. Very accessible for nonBroadway folks. An ensemble piece like Comet

Don't see it if You are looking for something with more structure. The story is there, but it's more about how they do it.

Must see, Resonant, Relevant, Thought-provoking, Great staging

See it if you want to see a refreshing and surprisingly relevant take on the myth of 'Orpheus and Eurydice'.

Don't see it if you like your musicals light and airy.

Great singing, Entertaining, Absorbing

See it if you want to see an entirely new and original musical on Broadway. A wonderful retelling of Orpheus and Euridyce for the modern age

Don't see it if if you're looking for a "mainstream" musical

Resonant, Great staging, Relevant, Terrific score, Great singing

See it if you want to experience a great musical, which makes two mythic stories quite relevant today.

Don't see it if you require a scenic extravaganza or large ensemble in a musical. Set changes are subtle (but quite effective). Ensemble is small.

89
Edgy, Refreshing, Great writing, Great staging, Delightful

See it if a musical based on a greek tragedy. the songs are unique, story is old but retold with great staging and great cast.

Don't see it if if you are tired of edgy, musicals with a rabid fan base and very expensive ticket prices
