About the show

Inspired by the themes and raw emotions laid bare in Alanis Morissette’s Grammy Award-winning album, this new Broadway musical tells an original story about pain, healing, and empowerment. More…

From the show:

“Redemptive, rousing, and real, JAGGED LITTLE PILL stands alongside the original musicals that have sustained the best hopes of Broadway." (The New York Times, Critic’s Pick)

Inspired by Alanis Morissette’s Grammy Award-winning masterpiece, JAGGED LITTLE PILL brings to the stage the “humanly recognizable and magnificently staged story” (The Daily Beast) of the Healys, a suburban family whose serene Connecticut lives collide head-on with some of the most burning issues of today.

Through explosive choreography and the raw power of an onstage band, JAGGED LITTLE PILL creates a spellbinding musical experience that lifts its audience from moments of quiet, tender intimacy to pure rock ‘n’ roll release. The result is an electric, fearless look at what it means to be alive in 21st century America and an urgent call for us to come together even as the world pushes us apart.

“JAGGED LITTLE PILL is a show you want to shout about,” writes Variety, “a galvanic production that feels very much of the moment — this moment.”

Not a good fit between the songs and the story, Quirky, Ambitious, Great staging, Great singing

See it if you know and enjoy Alanis Morissette's music. The story of the problems of the family was interesting and at times shocking.

Don't see it if you don't know Morissettte's music. Many times it was hard to hear the lyrics in the chorus numbers. The story at times was melodramatic

Great music, Dizzying, Ambitious, Relevant, Edgy

See it if Show stopping patten singing you outta know is show at its best. Lots of issues of the moment thrown in. Stanley’s mj unraveling compelling

Don't see it if Entire cast flailing about for too many songs. It adds to the rock angst flavor but is distracting compared to quiet moments for characters

Intelligent, Great singing, Absorbing

See it if Great book, great music, excellent cast. This is a relevant, entertaining, and thought provoking show. I highly recommend it. See it!

Don't see it if Do not miss it. It is a must see and timely show. See it!

Great singing, Cliched

See it if you love Morrisette music and don't care about story line. So many woke issues thrown in, the mind reels.

Don't see it if you want coherent or nuanced plot.

Surprisingly relevant, Resonant, Great staging, Great singing, Great acting

See it if this bright, non-stop show packs a punch; not your mom's juke-box musical (although she'd probably love it); best-of-Bway singing, staging

Don't see it if you find Morissette annoying or dated; don't want topicality in your musicals. Topics incl. overdose, rape, but not graphic (it's a musical)

Intense, Great staging, Great singing, Clever, Ambitious

See it if You like Alanis Morisette's music - and enjoy coming of age themes. The staging and choreography are unique and the talent is amazing.

Don't see it if You don't like loud rock music. You don't like difficult modern subjects - like pornography, opioid addiction and date rape.

Also I have to call out Lauren Patten for the fabulous performance - this i... Read more Read less

Intelligent, Great staging, Great acting, Entertaining, Uneven

See it if a. you love the music b. you like dramas

Don't see it if you are triggered by challenging topics, feels like every one of them, besides death was covered

Entertaining, Relevant, Great singing, Jam packed, Ambitious

See it if The Alaniss morisette music matches a story full of multiple contemporary issues Some wonderful exciting musical numbers. Very contemporar

Don't see it if A modern encyclopedia of today’s issues-can feel like a smorgasbord. But really what we all face today just jam packed into 2 hours.

Relevant, Flawed, Great music, Woke, Messy

See it if you're a super woke member of society & also love the Jagged Little Pill album. This is a flawed show but it's still relevant & interesting.

Don't see it if you're looking for escapism at the theater b/c this show is full of very real, weighty issues. It's not a fun show & the narrative is weak.

Also Despite being full of weighty issues (which I think is a good thing-- ... Read more Read less

Energetic, Not bad for a jukebox musical, Jumbly, Pandering, Entertaining

See it if you love big stage jukebox musical productions full of talented performers who belt like there's no tomorrow. Morissette fans will enjoy it.

Don't see it if you like plays that are created by artists rather than put together purely for commercial success. Disjointed stories. Panders to audience.

Thought-provoking, Relevant, Edgy, Dizzying, Ambitious

See it if 2 groups- 1) Anyone interested in social activism. 2) 30+ year olds who grew up on these songs. Basically ME. Trying to have some opinions.

Don't see it if If you hated Next To Normal, or don’t like when every character has a subplot. It weakens the effect. Frankie’s plot could have done more.

Also *No true spoilers- but if you don’t want to know any character analysi... Read more Read less

Ambitious, Clever, Great singing, Relevant

See it if you enjoy Alanis Morissette's music and are keen to see it set to an original storyline. Lauren Patten's "You Oughta Know" is a highlight.

Don't see it if not necessarily a reason not to see, but be aware that the show tries to tackle too many issues, and therefore glosses over most of them.

Overrated, Indulgent, Ambitious

See it if You're a die-hard Morisette fan. The interpretations of her music are well-crafted and moving.

Don't see it if If you don't get Morisette. The story line is far too broad - like an after school special with all the big problems thrown into a blender.

Intense, Edgy, Clever, Entertaining, Great singing

See it if you're a fan of Alanis Morrisette and/or want to see an intense evening of rock or a night of positive female empowerment. Open your mind!

Don't see it if you aren't familiar with the artist (lyrics may be hard to catch on 1st listen) or want only a happy musical with no darkness.

Relevant, Great singing, Great acting, Absorbing

See it if You want to hear a fresh take on Alanis' music with great vocal arrangements. Very of the time with the topics, and a really talented cast.

Don't see it if You are bothered by "progressive liberal" ideologies. This show deals with addiction and rape as well. Also, can be loud at times.

Great singing, Intelligent, Thought-provoking, Intense, Great acting

See it if You like the Alanis Morisette songbook, musicals that are largely dramatic, and serious themes such as sexual assault and opioid abuse.

Don't see it if You don’t care for Alanis Morisette’s songs, prefer to see a musical comedy with spectacular sets & dances rather than serious themes.

Entertaining, Overrated, Great singing

See it if You like musicals like Next to Normal and Spring Awakening.

Don't see it if You're not interested in the problems of a rich, suburban family from CT.

Energetic cast, Wonderful choreo, Stereotype-ridden

See it if If you are in high school or not long out of high school you will love it. Lauren Padden is worth the price of admission all by herself.

Don't see it if If stereotypes annoy you, you may want to skip this one, particularly given the ridiculously high seat pricing. I am torn about the show

Also The first act left me cold, written only to establish the stereotypes ... Read more Read less

Thought-provoking, Relevant, Absorbing, Great staging, Great singing

See it if Terrific direction, perf, design&choreo. All work seemlessly in the new JLP musical to maximalize loneliness&trauma of Morissette's JLP album.

Don't see it if Themes of rape, race, gun violence, addiction, sexuality, defiance&rebirth: all relevant topics yet, Cody's book way too crowded.

Also Electrifying dancing, from Choreo Sidy L. ... Read more Read less

See it if You are an Alainis fan and want to see a musical about current issues.

See it if You want to see something a little different in a musical. Such a talented cast and some standout performances.

Don't see it if you don't like storylines that involve sexual assault or a show trying to do something different.

Relevant, Intense, Epic, Great singing, Absorbing

See it if you want to see the best and most relevant jukebox musical around. This is a stunning show, with a powerful hard-hitting plot.

Don't see it if the hard-hitting subjects are potential triggers for you. They do not shy away from them. If you can though, you should absolutley see this.

Also Lots of potential triggers in this show, but the story is so powerful.... Read more Read less

Don't see it if you need the music/lyrics to assist in telling a story.

3/5 stars.
