One of the world’s most epic modern myths comes to Broadway in this new musical that employs an innovative mix of robotics, puppet, and stagecraft to bring the legendary ape to life. More…
Follow an ambitious young actress and a maverick filmmaker as they voyage from the bustling streets of 1930s New York to an uncharted island to capture the greatest wonder the world has ever seen. At the center of this 21st-century reimagining: a 2,000-pound gorilla brought roaring to life by a team of seamlessly integrated artists and technicians. A larger-than-life encounter with a legend that’s always been too big to contain. Written by Jack Thorne ('Harry Potter and the Cursed Child'), directed and choreographed by Olivier Award winner Drew McOnie, with a new score by Marius de Vries ('La La Land') and Eddie Perfect ('Strictly Ballroom').
See it if Nearly every element of this show is pretty terrible. But the ape and the lighting design are worth the price of admission alone.
Don't see it if I definitely will not judge you if you skip it.
See it if you want to see a puppet on stage with horrible written songs and the music was horrendous.
Don't see it if you want to see a better musical on broadway or really anywhere else
See it if The ape is the only reason to see this. Bad score, mediocre dancing, 2nd rate leads. The set is not bad. all told you do better at Disney
Don't see it if you want a show with a first rate score, dancing and singing. This is more an excuse for the ape puppet (which is good) than a musical
See it if only if you are burning with curiosity to see the puppet. it is literally the only highlight but even that feat can't carry the show
Don't see it if you don't want to put yourself through excruciating story telling. the writing is probably the worst since Paramore...
See it if you enjoy watching and being amazed at bad movies - this is a stage version of that. How on earth did this happen?! Please read on below
Don't see it if you can't find a sick sense of enjoyment out of watching a dumpster fire happen right in front of you Please read below
See it if If you like King Kong. The puppet, lighting and sound are awesome.
Don't see it if if you are looking for a good show. The story and lyrics are terrible. The show does not even really make sense.
See it if To experience $35MM worth of IMAX motion effects & cool Kong puppet operated by a talented crew.
Don't see it if You are expecting a genuine Broadway musical with a quality story & score. You get a headache from loud noises.
See it if You have nothing else to see? You want a lesson in how not to write a book? Or if you want to see actors trying to make this work.
Don't see it if You have any other options. Seriously. It’s bad.
See it if you have a strong desire to see the puppet. Possibly the worst major production I have ever seen in terms of story and creativity.
Don't see it if you expect to see a full, creative and well scripted show.
See it if Where to begin...you want to waste your money on this terribly executed "musical"
Don't see it if You expect a high quality production of what could have been a very fun, campy show about a shackled monkey.
See it if you like theme park shows about gorillas.
Don't see it if you want good music or an interesting book. Nothing to see here but a big monkey puppet. This show does not deserve to be on Broadway.
See it if you believe that sound volume is a proxy for quality and you like 2 story puppets. Have I mentioned the giant puppet?
Don't see it if you're looking for a show that's remotely worth your money. If you can snag free tickets and have nothing else to do, I suppose you can go.
See it if You want to be dazzled by special effects (the giant puppet and lighting/projections) and don't need much else to have a good time.
Don't see it if You actually want a musical: some of the numbers are nothing more than instrumental scores for action on stage. It's all about that puppet!
See it if you like really spectacular effects and want to see an amazing puppet moved with great skill by puppeteers who are incredible.
Don't see it if you want a good score - a good book and good choreography.
See it if You want to lose hours of your life. Songs are terrible, singing isn't great. Even the ape wasn't impressive. Only the LED backdrop was good
Don't see it if You want quality a story, and product. I feel sorry for the singers and dancers who are pouring their hearts out - Little to work with.
See it if Hated it. Yes, the King Kong itself was fantastic to see and they did a great job on that. But that’s good for about 5 min.
Don't see it if Don’t see unless you absolutely must see the puppetry or really love the King Kong movie and feel compelled.
See it if you want to see the puppet
Don't see it if you enjoy a show that has a good story and memorable music, this isn't it! I could go on for an hour about how bad this show was.
See it if If you like spectacle over content, this is for you. If you love the original Kong...stay away!
Don't see it if So many reasons not to see this. Music is dreadful...Book is dreadful. Acting is laughable.
See it if ONLY and even then with reservations if you are a king kong fan ...maybe if you are a puppeteer fan
Don't see it if I hate to see someone or something fail, I knew it would be hokey but not as horrible as it was - I was rooting for the planes at the end
See it if you have low expectations and a tin ear.
Don't see it if you don’t want to waste two hours of your life dozing off sitting up as a fake gorilla roars and roars and roars.
See it if dont. just don't. the puppet is the ONLY redeeming factor in this entire show.
Don't see it if You want an entertaining show that moves you. Or catchy songs. Some of the music sounds like techno pop from the 90s
