After a run at the Public Theater, Emmy and Obie winner John Leguizamo brings his hit solo show about the buried history of Latinos in the Americas to Broadway. More…
Inspired by the near total absence of Latinos in his son’s American history class, Leguizamo embarks on a frenzied search to find a Latin hero for his son’s school project. From a mad recap of the Aztec empire to stories of unknown Latin patriots of the Revolutionary War and beyond, Leguizamo breaks down the 3,000 years between the Mayans and Ricky Ricardo into 100 irreverent and uncensored minutes in his trademark style.
See it if you're a Leguizamo fan and you speak Spanish. There is a good idea in there.
Don't see it if Disappointing. Low energy, low stakes show. No hook. Leguizamo is not the best at impersonations.
See it if You are a fan of Leguizamo, enjoy standup comedy style shows or have an interest in History.
Don't see it if You are looking for a traditional play. This is more like a standup comedy special - unfortunately I only chuckled a handful of times.
See it if you have a particular passion for the subject matter and insider knowledge of the culture (it helps to speak Spanish)- needed to get jokes
Don't see it if you're expecting a high energy show with one laugh out loud moment after another - it doesn't deliver
See it if John Leguizamo is just an original voice and force on stage. I wished he would have told this history lesson in one of his earlier shows.
Don't see it if The history of the Latin people is fascinating and truly interesting without being boring. The boring part is John talking about his son.
See it if Not a history lesson for morons as much as a "book list" for those who don't want to be morons on Latino history. More edifying than funny.
Don't see it if Skip if you don't like being lectured on the slow extermination of the Aztecs, Incas, & Latino's as a whole. Skip if U don't speak Spanish.
See it if You're Latino or Hispanic or like kind of low brow humor
Don't see it if you like more sophisticated humor and don't like listening to a lot of 4 letter words
See it if You are a John Leguizamo fan; and wish to learn more about Latin History.
Don't see it if You are expecting a laugh-riot. The premise didn't work for me. The language can be a bit rough as well.
See it if you're interested in Latin history, or are a huge Leguizamo fan. Otherwise, it's boring.
Don't see it if you don't want a lesson on Latin history...Some of the humor lands very well, but other than that, it's okay.
See it if You are huge fan of John, it will not disappoint if you are! The show is his typical humor style.
Don't see it if You are easily offended, there are tons of risky jokes.
See it if You just want to see John Leguizamo & a couple of funny lines.
Don't see it if You expect to see a stand up comic do a very funny routine. It is very drawn out and not that funny.
See it if It’s really interesting! You can learn some basic history of Latin America. It’s funny too! Def made for an older audience.
Don't see it if John sure thinks it’s cool for him to say the N word huh?
See it if you care about race, enjoy dirty humor, and funny impressions verging on caricatures (but, at least, usually, punching up).
Don't see it if you don't like direct, modern, dirty humor, are going to be upset by over-broad stereotypes, or need your main character to feel competent.
See it if You're a Leguizamo fan through and through. You like his character work. You aren't actually all that interested in Latin History.
Don't see it if You have a genuine curiosity about Latin History. You find throwaway Trump references annoying. You are not amused by mimed bestiality.
See it if You want to be lectured to by someone in the 1% and have 2 hours to kill
Don't see it if You wanted to be totally entertained instead of his political views and a 1 percenter lecturing the rest of us.
See it if you are a John L. fan or are interested in an entertaining briefing of Latin history
Don't see it if you dislike one man shows. if you are not Latino a lot of the jokes may go over your head, many of them are in Spanish or about the culture
See it if u r Puerto Rican, a moron, & u want high energy but ordinary insight into the history of Latinx struggle and excellence. JL lowers the bar
Don't see it if u r expecting more than a trite hyper History for Dummies lecture (I was), if u r academic, or if u appreciate the complexities of Oscar Wao
