About the show

After a run at the Public Theater, Emmy and Obie winner John Leguizamo brings his hit solo show about the buried history of Latinos in the Americas to Broadway. More…

Inspired by the near total absence of Latinos in his son’s American history class, Leguizamo embarks on a frenzied search to find a Latin hero for his son’s school project. From a mad recap of the Aztec empire to stories of unknown Latin patriots of the Revolutionary War and beyond, Leguizamo breaks down the 3,000 years between the Mayans and Ricky Ricardo into 100 irreverent and uncensored minutes in his trademark style.

Slow, indulgent, cliched, cramped seats/no legroom

See it if You're a super fan of the actor &want to hear him for 1 hour 55 min no intermission. You'll miss MANY words if you don't speak Spanish.

Don't see it if Stories are dull, rambling, cartoonish and repetitive. Rear mezz seats have no legroom so you'll have to sit sideways. Several walkouts.

Cliched, Disappointing, Excruciating

See it if You want a sophomoric night of "comedy" --- filling all the stereotypes.

Don't see it if You really want to engage and understand the state of racial relationships and what it is like to like as a person of color in the US

Banal, Insipid, Slow, Lacks enough cohesion, Overrated

See it if you enjoy stand up comedians and topical material. It is not very raunchy or crude so families may attend.

Don't see it if You are expecting a real history lesson. It’s very cursory. If you easily get offended by crude, bodily or ethnic humor.

Also Avoid sitting in front rows of orchestra if you do not want to become ... Read more Read less

Funny, Disappointing, Overrated, Insulting, Offensive

See it if You want to laugh/reminisce Latino inner city life. You like an Actor who uses the Show as his Sounding Block To Disrespect & Bash our Govt

Don't see it if Vulgar. Bougois WashingtonDC/Trump Disrespect/Insults/Bashing Ruined Show. Misleading Billboard/Marquee Costume Photos not in show!😟👎

Also Show made us feel uncomfortable. Like seeing a Puerto Rican Rally. End... Read more Read less

Banal, Dated, Disappointing, Excruciating, Funny

See it if You have seen everything else on and off Broadway and you can get a free ticket.

Don't see it if You have anything else you could do with your evening.

Confusing, Disappointing, Funny, Edgy, Indulgent

See it if It was perfect until Cortez having killed Montezuma the Aztecan people immediately began to speak Spanish: As though they spoke it before.

Don't see it if He may be Native American on the outside but he’s conquistador on the inside.

Also It was perfect until Cortez having killed Montezuma the Aztecan people... Read more Read less

Banal, Excrutiating, Tedious, Overrated, Over long

See it if you are a John Leguzamo fan. Unfortunately, this piece really disappoints. It is not nearly as good as his previous work. It is not funny.

Don't see it if you can catch another one-person show in town that's better, like "Georgy."

Also This piece really rambles and gets lost along the way. The audience di... Read more Read less

Disappointing, Excruciating

See it if you like anti-white rhetoric, if you like to hear f--k every other word, if you like drawings of genitalia, if you like one person blabbling

Don't see it if you are a fan of John Leg...not his best..His previous shows were funny, well directed. This is tough, mean spirited, repetitious, boring.

Disappointing, Sorry, i found it boring

See it if You will be content with a lame lecture/performance, which uses any excuse to be funny, lacking the underlying anger which makes it work.

Don't see it if You expect that because it is John Leguizamo, that you will laugh your ass off, as I did, but I did not even smile. Too high expectations?!?

Disappointing, Slow, Long-winded, Unfocused, Not very funny

See it if you can tolerate a long-winded one-man show that purports to be both very funny and educationally enlightening ... but sadly is neither.

Don't see it if you think it'll be reminiscent of WISHFUL DRINKING. It's not as funny, as intelligent, or as worthwhile as Carrie Fisher's show.

Excruciating, Insipid, Disappointing, Banal, Unfunny

See it if You can bear the tedium of JL's lecture on lost Latino history. Learned one or two new facts, but L has lost his way in this didactic mess.

Don't see it if Scatology and vulgarity are not your main reason for theater-going, you hate to see a performer groveling for your attention/approval. Ugh!

“Like the best mimics, Leguizamo administers large but precisely calibrated doses of exaggeration to make his impersonations pop...At their best, his jokes get at something deep...If only the character at the center of this frenetic one-man show were as convincing...The physical comedy, often ver...

“A history lecture delivered by the class clown, with the pleasures and limitations that entails…An energetic journey through Latin America’s past, with plenty of time set aside for jokes, full-throttle dancing, and a narratively convenient plot…The history he offers is often junky, but rigor is ...

“It’s a sobering education, but ‘Latin History’ is never a slog...Leguizamo keeps us laughing all the way through...A first-rate mimic...Leguizamo has a lot of value to share and an overflow of charm to share it with. He could have used a slightly more rigorous editor: certain devices start to fe...

“This production is a sobering expression of political urgency that reflects its star’s maturation as a Latino public figure...He demands involvement from the crowd — and brings enough empathy and passion to earn it...Boisterous and joyful but also laced with sorrow, with Leguizamo beautifully co...
