About the show

Based on Baz Luhrmann’s Oscar-winning film, and featuring many of its iconic songs, the world-premiere musical invites you to experience the sweeping grandeur of Paris’s most spectacular dance hall. (Past Reviews) More…

Set in the Montmartre Quarter of Paris at the turn of the century, a world of indulgent beauty and unparalleled extravagance, of bohemians and aristocrats, of boulevardiers and mademoiselles, "Moulin Rouge! The Musical" tells the fictional story of an ambitious, lovesick writer, Christian, and a dazzling, entrancing chanteuse, Satine. Their lives collide at the Moulin Rouge with its many characters including the host, Harold Zidler, the brilliant and starving artist Toulouse-Lautrec, the greatest tango dancer - and gigolo - in all of Paris, Santiago, the tempting Nini, and The Duke of Monroth, the wealthy and entitled patron of the club who thinks he can buy anything he wants, including love. Directed by Tony nominee Alex Timbers, with a book by Tony winner John Logan.

Fabulous fabulous, Great singing, Great staging, Exquisite, Entertaining

See it if You like jukebox musicals with songs in rapidfire succession. Costumes were to die for, voices were as good as they get, lavish numbers.

Don't see it if You're looking for something serious/deeply meaningful. This is cotton candy fluff with sparkles, heart, and lots of energy. Just plain fun.

Epic, Great staging, Slow, Overrated, Dizzying

See it if You like pure spectacle, dazzling scenic design, lighting and costumes. It's quite beautiful but the melodramatic story bogs it down.

Don't see it if you want to feel drama: they concentrate on the simple, over the top and cliche story. Would have been better with an original score.

Sexy af, Great dancing, Great singing, Entertaining, Exquisite

See it if Beautiful costumes, set, theater. Amazing dancing. Incredibly sexy. Mostly great performances. Fun night of theater. Ensemble is STELLAR.

Don't see it if You don't like jukebox musicals. It's VERY heavy-handed in jukebox. If you don't like overly sexy, scantily clad performers.

Also Don't have any aphrodisiacs before seeing this show or you may explode... Read more Read less

Don't see it if You prefer listening to French music at the Moulin Rouge with a few bare chested women thrown in the mix. Oo la la manefique.

Great staging, Great singing, Entertaining

See it if you want something big and splashy using familiar pop songs. Or if you are an Aaron Tveit fan. A treat for the eyes and ears.

Don't see it if you need much plot or great music. The story could probably be told in about 25 minutes. And the music mostly fells like filler.

See it if you enjoy jukebox musicals; if big numbers are appealing; if you enjoyed the movie

Don't see it if you are looking for a classic musical - this is very new

Meaningless, Fun, Great staging, Great singing, Entertaining

See it if You enjoy Las Vegas entertainment, this is Las Vegas plus. Lavish sets/costumes, great singers. Creatively staged.

Don't see it if you expect something other than pure entrainment. No meanings: hidden or otherwise. Stereotypical characters; music is from pop catalogue.

89
Exciting, Great singing, Entertaining

Don't see it if more traditional productions are to your taste.
