Set in the Montmartre Quarter of Paris at the turn of the century, a world of indulgent beauty and unparalleled extravagance, of bohemians and aristocrats, of boulevardiers and mademoiselles, "Moulin Rouge! The Musical" tells the fictional story of an ambitious, lovesick writer, Christian, and a dazzling, entrancing chanteuse, Satine. Their lives collide at the Moulin Rouge with its many characters including the host, Harold Zidler, the brilliant and starving artist Toulouse-Lautrec, the greatest tango dancer - and gigolo - in all of Paris, Santiago, the tempting Nini, and The Duke of Monroth, the wealthy and entitled patron of the club who thinks he can buy anything he wants, including love. Directed by Tony nominee Alex Timbers, with a book by Tony winner John Logan.
See it if You love a big show with big sets and costumes. The singing and dancing support the feel of the nightclub and new songs add pizzazz.
Don't see it if You are easily offended by sexual references and gender bending.
See it if You love high energy, engaging songs, dance numbers, & feeling immersed in the show universe. A+ acting, singing, choreo, set, costumes, etc
Don't see it if You expect it to be a carbon copy of the movie/won't accept changes in details/songs from the movie. You want a calm, introspective show
See it if You love spectacle and a show full of energy and are ready to double down on the great music mashups from the movie
Don't see it if You weren't a fan of the unabashed sentimentality of the movie or are put off by its jukebox style of songs (lots more of that)
See it if You Love great production values (set, lighting, costumes, choreography, direction); big Broadway shows, Karen Olivo is incredible in it!
Don't see it if You are sick of jukebox musicals!
See it if you love SETS. Great physical sets. Old style musical feel. See it if you love pop music. Every second there was another refrain you know.
Don't see it if you are tired of the same old story. It's the classic La Boheme, but hell, it's FUN!
See it if Saw it 3 times in Boston. The 1st time, it was so jaw dropping mesmerizing all I was thinking is how do I get a ticket for the 8 pm show ??!
Don't see it if You hate loud music, stunning staging and choreography...also suggestive outfits.
See it if You love music of all kinds and enjoy beings surprised by songs you know popping up throughout the show.
Don't see it if You have very small children with you. It is a bit risqué. It’s tasteful but children under 13 maybe have some questions.
See it if You want to see an incredible set design. Nothing else was redeeming.
Don't see it if You have ever watched the movie. The show was terrible. No chemistry. Terribly choreographed integration of the songs. Huge massive miss.
See it if If you like to listen to several catchy Top 40 tunes, or appreciate 1st rate dance choreography, and if you haven’t seen the original movie
Don't see it if You are expecting to feel the magic between Satine and Christian - it’s way less romantic. Kickass dance? yes! Dance extravaganza? No.
