About the show

Over 75 years after Rodgers & Hammerstein reinvented the American musical, this is "Oklahoma!" as you’ve never seen it before – reimagined for the 21st century. Winner of the 2019 Tony for Best Musical Revival. More…

Stripped down to reveal the darker psychological truths at its core, Daniel Fish’s production tells a story of a community circling its wagons against an outsider, and the violence of the frontier that shaped America. Upending the sunny romance of a farmer and a cowpoke, this "Oklahoma!" allows the classic musical – and our country – to be seen in a whole new light.

Banal, Annoying, Dishonest, Overrated, Excruciating

See it if you hate musicals, especially Rodgers and Hammerstein, and want to see a travesty of the original .

Don't see it if you love the original "Oklahoma!" and don't want to see an agenda-driven version, changing the ending significantly while pretending not to.

Also Ali Stroker is immensely talented and very sexy. Mary Testa and James ... Read more Read less

Overrated, Indulgent, Excruciating, Disappointing, Banal

See it if You want to see every production of Oklahoma on the planet, and don’t care if this is arbitrarily updated to no purpose.

Don't see it if You expect actors to connect, dislike screeching through songs, want to see dance by dancers, want to enjoy yourself.

Also Actors enter in first act dressed like they are in Brooklyn not Oklaho... Read more Read less

See it if If you love being beaten over the head with a concept until you pass out, you’ll love this mess of an ego-piece.

Why?

See it if You want to see a classic completely deconstructed and don't really care if actors can sing or not.

Don't see it if You think R&H musicals are perfect as they are.

Also This is a classic that did not need to be rethought for today. I would... Read more Read less

At its worst, Dreadful, Medium good at its best

See it if You need to see every new version of Rogers & Hammerstein

Don't see it if You think Rogers & Hammerstein's music produced at Jimi Hendrix decibel levels is a horrid idea. I ran out 10 minutes into the second act.

Also Shockingly low production values. I'd give this show a C for acting, C... Read more Read less
