Great staging, Great singing, Must see, Entertaining, Ambitious

See it if You love classic Broadway and have a familiarity of the shows. You won't see them presented better than they are here!

Don't see it if You don't like classic musicals or revues. There's no plot. Just a retrospective of an amazing career!

Great singing, Great staging, Entertaining, Refreshing, Delightful

See it if You love Broadway musicals. You have seen many Hal Prince musicals and listening to the songs from them is a thing of joy for you as for me

Don't see it if You are looking for a musical with an interesting storyline. This, apart from a Hal Prince bio lite, is a musical revue !

A dazzling array of musical performances, Show-stopper after show-stopper, Great singing

See it if Love musical theatre and want to see some classic songs (and some forgotten songs) revived by an exquisite group of talented pros.

Don't see it if You want a story rather than a collection of highlights or, of course, if you disdain musical theatre. Read more

Absorbing, Great singing, Great acting, Delightful

See it if you are a fan of Broadway in general, or the shows that Hal Prince produced in particular.

Don't see it if you prefer a linear story with entertaining singing and dancing.

Front Row Center

"Seeing a collection of greatest hits from his productions does not a fully satisfying Broadway show make. The cast, heavyweights of talent one and all, was superb...But you cannot get perfect casting for each role when each actor must play so many...The songs...are extraordinary, but they get punched in the gut because they are robbed of their context...If you have not seen most of Prince’s musicals, this is a splendid sampler package that may inspire you to seek out revivals of classics."

"For true Broadway aficionados, there perhaps couldn’t be a more ideal night at the theater than 'Prince of Broadway'...A celebration not only of Hal Prince’s prolific career, but also of the Broadway musical...The entire ensemble is excellent, and incredibly well-appointed. Each actor assumes several of the most important roles in the American musical theater canon throughout the run of the show, and does so with tremendous ease and ability."

"A 'best of' revue performed by a cast of pros following Prince's over sixty years of work. It’s a jukebox musical of some sort that focuses on recreations of memorable moments, without giving us much insight as to the why and how...The men in general fair very well in this show, showcasing killer vocals...Part way in, 'Prince of Broadway' starts to feel like a greatest hits parade done by 'American Idol' contestants...It feels speedy and showy, and without a narrative to ground it."

Exeunt Magazine

"Uses its unashamed navel-gazing to chart the history of the modern musical...The dialogue is often extremely brief anecdotes...This conceit is almost immediately tiresome...The second act’s structure hops around in time and disjointedly attempts to link songs by theme...The result is a string of songs–some performed exceptionally well, some not so much–that plod along without any perspective."

“This effort, though Herculean, leaves the audience wanting more...The ‘transition’ monologues...are simply not enough exposition to sate the palate of the audience member…That said, what ‘Prince of Broadway’ does provide is two and a half hours of blissful entertainment…Perhaps you will not know more about him after the musical or garner more knowledge about the shows represented; however, the performances will surely pique your interest.”

"Over the course of this fantastic evening, nine talented Broadway stars introduce many of Prince’s works...There are numerous shining moments in the show, many of which come in the fourth sequence...With 'Prince of Broadway,' Mr. Prince—and his entire company—can reflect on a job that has not only been done well but one that has been done with heaping servings of vitality and panache."

“More of a light summer frolic than a substantially hearty show…Despite a talented nine-person ensemble, ‘Prince of Broadway’ plays like a museum piece…Thompson’s book attempts to string everything together…But it’s all scattershot…Still, it’s a treat to see a great cast of Broadway musical veterans and new faces take on classics…‘Prince of Broadway’ may be less than the sum of its parts, but it’s a spirited trip through 20th century musical theater, and one with wide appeal.”

Theatre's Leiter Side

“‘A helluva grand time’ is…what most theatregoers are going to experience at this abundantly well-stocked arrangement of topflight numbers from classic shows…Prince either produced or directed…Conceptually, the show makes no breakthroughs in the jukebox musical tradition...It's too bad that some shows lack any commentary at all; unless you're a Broadway fanboy or fangirl, whatever information the script provides is largely irrelevant in helping you understand the context for most of the songs.”
