Thought-provoking, Intense, Great acting, Edgy, Absorbing

See it if You are open to seeing a play that explores racial issues in an extremely provocative way, but also with humor.

Don't see it if You only like very traditional comedies that aren't intense or challenging.

Intense, Relevant, Great acting, Edgy, Absorbing

See it if you enjoy engaging in contemporary issues as refracted through a theatrical lens. This play will make you think (and laugh).

Don't see it if you don't like Tom Stoppard. If simulated sex on stage offends you, avoid this play.

Great acting, Intense, Must see, Profound, Thought-provoking

See it if you want to be challenged, learn, or grow. You want to learn about the black experience via sex therapy. You are looking for something new.

Don't see it if you are taking children, you are triggered by sex trauma or slavery, you dislike strobe lights, you want something mindless.

Edgy, Great acting, Great writing, Clever, Absorbing

See it if You like a storyline that is relevant but strangely writing and presented...very very different

New York Theater

For a previous production

"It would be unfair to sum up 'Slave Play' as soft-core S&M porn followed by pseudo psychological insights about race in American - because it's other things as well…theatricality….sharp satire…. identifying real-life undercurrents both in race relations and in couple dynamics."

"'Slave Play' makes a kind of history of its own, boldly bringing Broadway into unfamiliar waters! Bravo!"

Theatre's Leiter Side

For a previous production

"'Slave Play' is…verbose, its characters more symbols than people, its dramatic tension secondary to its theoretical pyrotechnics, and, given its content, its intermissionless two hours too damned long."
