Sweeney Todd, whose real name is Benjamin Barker, uses his new alias to resume work in his barber shop above Mrs. Lovett’s struggling pie shop after being wrongfully sentenced to life imprisonment by the corrupt Judge Turpin. After swearing vengeance against the judge that tore his family apart, Todd and Lovett plot a unique plan that helps them both and leads them down a dangerous, thrilling path with deadly consequences.
See it if You enjoy complex stories and music. Every element of the show demands the artists bring out their best work or the audience won't get it.
Don't see it if If you don't like black comedy or music and lyrics that challenge you as an audience member, don't go.
See it if You love a protagonist with an elegant madness like King George in "Hamiltion" by Lynn Manwell Maranda, or a calm but entriging thriller
Don't see it if You are taking your young children or anyone who does not enjoy a murder "mystery" (I use quotation marks because it isn't really a mystery)
See it if You love Sondheim. This show is, in my opinion, one of Sondheim's best. It has his rhythms and personifies his love for his work.
Don't see it if You don't like blood or violence. There is a little bit of that in this show. So if you aren't good with blood, it's definitely not for you.
See it if You love dark humour, beautiful story and amazing performances.
Don't see it if You are uncomfortable with the following: murder, mentions of rape, cannibalism and the Victorian age of consent.
