About the show

The Grammy, Oscar, Golden Globe, and Emmy-winning entertainer’s life story comes to Broadway in this new musical, featuring her many hits including "If I Could Turn Back Time" and "I Got You Babe." More…

"The Cher Show" is her story, and it’s packed with so much Cher that it takes three women to play her: The kid starting out, the glam pop star. and the icon. "The Cher Show" is 35 songs, six decades of stardom, two rock-star husbands, and enough Bob Mackie gowns to cause a sequin shortage in New York City.

Great singing, Entertaining, Jukebox, Disappointing, Slow

See it if You absolutely love cher and her music.

Great lighting, Great dancing, Great costumes, Confusing, Great singing

See it if You love Cher. you want to see a really great tango number that she has nothing to do with. You want to see a drag show without drag queens

Don't see it if I don’t love Cher, and I liked her less leaving than I did going in. It all was very entitled and self indulgent. But good for its target.

Indulgent, Great staging, Banal, Cliched, Disappointing

See it if You want to hear Cher's main hits and learn about her relationship with Sonny. Also the sets and costumes are fantastic.

Don't see it if You are tired of the rushed, and hardly-thought-out plot of jukebox musicals that rush through to get to the songs.

Overrated, Fluffy, Great singing

See it if You love Stephanie Block and/or Bob Mackie

Don't see it if You're looking for anything more than a greatest hits mega-mix

64
Cliched, Great singing, One impressive dance number

See it if you really love Cher, and don't mind hearing other audience members more than the cast.

Don't see it if you want an original take on the singer biomusical. Same devices as Summer, just Cher songs.

Also Seriously, you'll hear some audience members more than the cast on lik... Read more Read less

Don't see it if You're looking for a good book. All the Chers interact with each other- its silly but in on the joke.

Disappointing, Overrated, Slow, Fluffy, Some fun moments

See it if you adore Cher and Bob Mackie and don't expect more than a skim-the-surface Facebook profile of a show.

Don't see it if you'd prefer more Broadway and less Vegas.

Also Though Stephanie J. Block was out, her standby did a credible job. Don... Read more Read less

You are not going for the story

See it if Talented leads - both actresses and dresses You like extravaganzas You like the Cher playbook

Don't see it if The show does not drag but at times, who cares what the Chers have to say to one another Lots of movement but many without meaning

Lonnnnnnggg, Irrelevant, Insipid, Fluffy, Disappointing

See it if you are in NYC between Aug 16-18 and have money to waste and are a huge Cher fan

65
Funny, Disappointing, Confusing, Entertaining, Campy

See it if love Cher, fantastic costumes or great performances that really remind you of Cher

Don't see it if do not like juke box musicals. If audience members singing and dancing along bug you

60
Banal, Great singing, Fun, Embarrassing (am i really here?)

See it if There's too much material to cover in Cher's life for a few hours onstage. Events are mentioned quickly and in passing with no p.o.v.

Don't see it if You don't mind minimally clever theater.

62
Cliched, Fluffy, Disappointing, Great costumes, Great singing

See it if you are a hardcore Cher fan and also like jukebox musicals. You don't want an actual look into her life story

Don't see it if you want more depth, more story, more conflict.

Cliched, Fluffy, Indulgent, Great costumes, Banal

See it if You love all things Cher, you're in it for the razzle dazzle & costumes, you're ready to be wowed by Stephanie J. Block

Don't see it if You look for any depth or quality in book or structure. The script was tough stuff.

62
Great singing, Disappointing, Entertaining

Don't see it if you really like Cher, because you might be disappointed, it was a little mundane for me

Don't see it if you don't like jukebox musicals

60
Entertaining, Delightful, Fun, Great singing

See it if you love Cher. Stephanie J. Block's rendition of her is masterful and the music is really fun.

Don't see it if you want a night of thought provoking theatre or something truly well done. It was great fun but not the best theatre I've seen.

52
Banal, Confusing, Disappointing, Overrated, Great singing

See it if The singing is good but the dancing was amateur. The story line a little confusing with 3 Cher's

Don't see it if You don't want to spend the money for a mediocre show

62
Great costumes, Disappointing, Cliched

See it if If you love great costumes. One good dance number. If you like a good celebrity impression.

Don't see it if If you don't like Cher. If you are expecting Rich Elice to have written a book as good as Jersey Boys.

"Except for the dozens of eye-popping outfits Mr. Mackie gorgeously recreates for the occasion, it’s all gesture, no craft: dramatically threadbare and surprisingly unrevealing...You can’t distinguish scenes meant to borrow comedy-hour elements from those meant to be taken at face value... It was...

"The show whirls through six decades at a dizzying pace that disguises, up to a point, that it doesn’t have much to stand on...Cher’s actual hits can’t support that task: They are likeable but skimpy pop ditties. Elice’s script responds to this challenge by skipping past most of them quickly...Li...

"It’s such a garish, obvious pastiche, such an unabashedly soulless explosion of wigs and trite memoir wisdom, that somewhere in the midst of its overinflated two and a half hours—probably during one of its dips into stodgy, life-lesson-y sentiment between showstoppers—you start to wonder: Is thi...

"We get Cher at three distinct points in her evolution, cracking wise and offering cautionary advice, encouragement and consolation through her ups and downs. That quasi-interior dialogue is often quite affecting...Is the show good? Certainly not in the sense of traditional musical-theater craft....
