"'The Cher Show'…is extremely entertaining, and not in the mindless way you might expect…An eye-poppingly lavish, musically engaging show whose producers…aren't afraid to go overboard in order to replicate the visual excess associated with the Goddess of Pop…Most of the attention is garnered by Block's remarkable replication, not only of Cher's vocal qualities, but of her earthy personality, ready wit, and striking appearance…Delivers…slam-bang flash and glitter."

“The show is putting its faith in the power of sequins...’The Cher Show’ is banking on the popularity of the star...The clothes are admittedly hard to resist...Gattelli’s choreography captures the spirit of a Cher concert. There are some terrific performances, primarily Block...’The Cher Show’ offers some of the same pleasures as her old television shows, slightly enlarged, or of her concert tours, condensed. For her most devoted fans, that might be enough."

"This is a straightforward story of female empowerment, though, as crafted by an all-male creative team, it sometimes feels more like a compilation of girl-power pep talks than an individual woman’s singular journey...Mashing song and story together is the great problem of the genre. 'The Cher Show' doesn’t solve it. Rick Elice’s book relies heavily on exposition...Though there are three Chers, it’s clear from the opening number that Block is the goddess of this particular trinity."

"Watching 'The Cher Show' is as much fun as watching old network TV. The jokes are lame, segues between scenes are blunt or nonexistent, and a general lack of inventiveness pervades the entire enterprise. Only one dance number manages to replicate the kind of grand, fun-loving awfulness that Cher brought to wearing Bob Mackie’s impressively tacky gowns...The real star is Block, who may be the best impersonator the Broadway stage has seen in recent memory."

"The uneven book and the fabulous frocks are not all there is to this dazzling, ultimately entertaining glitz-fest. Moore’s direction is lightning-fast, giving the proceedings the speed and flash of a Vegas concert, and the performances rise above the 'Behind the Music' milieu of the story...Stephanie J. Block delivers a Tony-worthy performance as the third persona...Despite the rushed, shallow nature of the book, 'Cher' contains more than its share of campy fun elements."

"This is sensational actress-singer Block’s show as she turns in a rousing performance...Primarily a flashy expedition...There’s little depth to the book as it attempts to span developments in Cher’s life and career...The main attraction is pure glitz, the kind that sets off applauding by Cher enthusiasts...It is a sweeping jukebox bio with a chance to ooh and ah at the costumes and enjoy performance highlights in the triple-duty depictions of Cher...particularly the stint of Block as Cher."

"As full-grown Cher and the show’s self-referential narrator, Stephanie J. Block may have at last found the sort of showy, outlandish star vehicle perfectly suited to her off-center talents...The story accelerates in fits and starts under Jason Moore’s nimble direction, skimming over certain bits with clever alacrity...Unlike its legendary namesake, 'The Cher Show' doesn’t venture too far outside the box — doing so runs counter to the project of self-mythologizing inherent to the form."

"Stephanie J. Block is flat out terrific...Also instrumental to the success of this show are unarguably Mackie’s fabulous costumes...Elice had the sense to pepper the piece with Cher’s caustic humor...I could scorn the clumsy, this book is about prologue and rhetorically ask when biopic musicals will learn that splitting a heroine into three nonlinear portrayals always gives us 2/3 less clear an idea of the person and over complicates history."
