This classic tale of a British schoolteacher's unexpected relationship with the imperious King of Siam features a cast of more than 50, choreography based on the original by Jerome Robbins, and a score of treasured songs including "Getting to Know You," "I Whistle a Happy Tune" and "Shall We Dance?" in their original orchestrations.

See it if you want to see a good ol' classic production of the King and I.

Don't see it if you're looking for something more original.

See it if you want to see a classic Broadway musical filled with well-written music and simplistic themes

Don't see it if you plan to think too hard about the colonialist themes of the story, or the historical accuracy of the real King Mongkut of Thailand

"Tamper too much with the basic appeal of this show and it capsizes. Mr. Sher sheds a light that isn’t harsh or misty but clarifying.
