About the show

In Julie Taymor's Tony Award winning retelling of Disney's animated hit, puppets and live actors weave a dreamscape of jungle characters, creating the story of young Simba's rise to the throne. More…

The award-winning stage adaptation of the 1994 Disney film, 'The Lion King' tells the story of a young lion prince, Simba. He idolizes his father, the king Mufasa, while at the same time youthfully shirks the responsibility his position in life requires. When an unthinkable tragedy orchestrated by Simba’s wicked uncle, Scar, takes Mufasa’s life, Simba must fulfill his destiny to be king. 'The Lion King' is the winner of 6 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

47
Insipid, Indulgent, Excruciating, Disappointing, Banal

See it if you're a sheep who automatically thinks empty but epic things are good because everyone else says so.

Don't see it if you have the chance to see ANY other show!

The puppets are good but the book is severely lacking, Disappointing, Banal

See it if a tired show that's been running a long time with a trite story. Or if seeing puppets for a few minutes is enough to justify ticket price

Don't see it if You want to see a show with an absorbing book; ; you don't like African music

30

Overrated, Disappointing, Insipid, Great staging, Delightful

See it if you like the film and value visual effects over the story, score, or consistency. Honestly, I was fighting to stay awake...and I failed.

Don't see it if you want something "smart," or intellectually or emotionally challenging. Also, you don't want to ruin your date with this snoozefest.

Dated, Disappointing, Overrated, Slow

See it if You have kids that you cannot find anything else to entertain them with. Also, if you feel like wasting a bunch of money.

Don't see it if you want to actually understand what any of the cast is saying. I couldn't understand a word of the show. Also, everyone is tired and bored.

20
Disappointing, Overrated

See it if you get free tickets if one of your out of town friends gets it for you as a gift...you can at least say "you've seen it".

Don't see it if you expect the show to be anything like the opening scene, which has been on tv forever. The show is stale, poorly performed, for kids.

20

See it if you like family friendly, Disney-type shows, tend to follow hype and don't go to a lot of theater in general

Don't see it if you want to preserve your positive childhood memories of Lion King and the greatness of the original motion picture, or if you hate fluff

Don't see it if you want to see actors acting instead of being slaves to abusive costumes.
