English con artists in comic romp at snooker tournament

See it if Fast-paced, well-plotted tale of scoundrels at pool tourney. Schnetzer is excellent in the lead but trans actress Billings steals the show

Don't see it if "One Man, Two Guv'nors" (by the same author) was funnier. But this one is not a farce. It's a comedy with clever plot twists. Nice sets. Read more

Funny, Great writing, Entertaining, Great staging, Great acting

See it if You want a very funny play about the snooker championships in Sheffield, England

Don't see it if You dislike plays with dialogue strongly accented in a working-class English colloquial dialogue. You don’t have a good sense of hearing.

Silly, Entertaining, Funny, Clever, Forget your troubles

See it if you want to have fun & some good laughs; enjoy watching a competitive sport from an all around terrific cast; you get a little of everything

Don't see it if you insist on comparing this play to One Man Two Guvnors - One Man will win out every time; you don't like farce and lots of silliness.

"It may be early, but I am confident when I say that “The Nap” is the low point of the Broadway season...It is tragically unfunny, consistently offensive, and devoid of any quality...The characters are constantly making jokes about these preposterous traits, and the shtick gets old very quickly. To make matters worse, the majority of the jokes are rather offensive...I’ll give the show points for casting a trans actor to play the trans character, but they get points for literally nothing else."

"Daniel Sullivan’s direction keeps the plot and actors constantly moving and you really have to pay attention to the dialogue. Because of the regional British accents in the show, it makes it difficult to understand all the punch lines, thus extra listening is required to get the most out of them...'The Nap' is not as rambunctious as its predecessor, but still a delightful evening of hi-jinx in the theater."

“Outlandishly funny direction by Sullivan and writing of Bean. ‘The Nap’ is 100% a comedy...There is a laundry list of characters that make you laugh at their madness...’The Nap’ is a total example that shows thrive on characters. You will walk away with a favorite, and a few one-liners you pray you will get to use in a conversation. Moreover, its live match of snooker is riveting; allowing the audience to really feel like they are watching a real sports event/fraud before their eyes.”

"The show is neither very funny nor very suspenseful...Act 2 has some ingenious staging: The audience is able to watch the final rounds of the championship match through a live-streaming projection above the snooker table onstage...There is a big plot reveal, in one last attempt to snooker us all...Daniel Sullivan directed; Kay Voyce designed the too-obvious costumes; David Rockwell created the clever sets."

“It’s a comedy. And it is very, very funny...’The Nap’ is totally original and thoroughly modern...Bean has populated his play with a classic set of comic characters...The performances are uniformly top notch...The real hero of this production is Bean. He has intertwined a hilarious comedy with a thriller filled with surprises. What more could we ask of a play designed to simply entertain? Pure comedy is back on Broadway.”

“Bean's script has plenty of weird and funny bits, but far too much falls flat. Sullivan, usually so reliably excellent, fails to bring the necessary fizz and fun to the proceedings...Things pick up considerably in the second act, when the plot finally kicks in...Ultimately, ‘The Nap’ seems full of potential, but doesn't fully deliver. Fans of off-beat humor and groan-worthy gags will find some of those pleasures here, but overall the play is overcome by sluggish pacing and hit-or-miss laughs.”

“Pleasantly funny new play...’The Nap’ has some genuinely funny moments, the commentary over the snooker matches is hysterical and the supporting characters are outlandish and brilliantly performed...The problems within 'The Nap' are in the plot. The first 20 minutes or so drag before the play finds its legs...The other major problem...is its ending, which is mostly formulaic and lacks any real honesty in its climax.”
