After playing the role at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in 2016, Academy Award winner Marisa Tomei returns to Broadway as Serafina in Roundabout's revival of Tennessee Williams's lesser-known drama.
From the show:
This is one Tennessee Williams woman you won’t soon forget.
Academy Award winner Marisa Tomei unleashes a tour de force as Serafina, a widow who rekindles her desire for love, lust and life in the arms of a fiery suitor. Sharply directed by Trip Cullman (Significant Other), Williams’s lesser-known gem sizzles with humor and heart one sultry summer off the coast of Louisiana.
Don’t miss Tomei’s quintessential performance—erupting from the depths of despair to the heights of passion in this Tony Award-winning Best Play.
See it if You think Tennessee Williams should be done as a Carol Burnett skit. I never associated TW as broad comedy. Marissa Tomei was funny, sadly.
Don't see it if You like Tennessee Williams. He’s NOT A comedy writer. This was so misguided, I can’t believe this is taking up Broadway space.
See it if You are a die hard Tomei fan or are a subscriber to RTC
Don't see it if you want to see a show with good acting, scenic design, script, or direction...everything is messy and weird
See it if you must see Marisa Tomei in person.
Don't see it if you’re a Williams fan and feel like you have to see anything he wrote. This is a horrible interpretation.
See it if you like overacting, screaming, and badly mispronounced words in Italian uttered with the most stereotypical fake "dago" accent.
Don't see it if you respect Tennessee Williams and do not think that this play should be a clownish farce, but rather a raw, sensual display of emotions
See it if you are a tennessee williams completist and if you are a big fan of marisa tomei and if you enjoy slapstick & farce.
Don't see it if you dislike slapstick, forced humor, and overacting.
Also the slapstick courtship between serafina & alvaro plays like an episod... Read more Read less
See it if You have to see any adaptations of Tennessee Williams’ work
Don't see it if You can’t abide intermittently terrible acting and hammy fake accents
See it if If you are a true blue Marissa Tomei fan. She is the only good thing about it.
Don't see it if This was an utter mess with some of the worst direction I have ever seen.
See it if You’re a militant fan of Tennessee Williams. And perhaps if you had an old Italian grandmother and can easily make sense of a strong accent.
Don't see it if You’d like to understand the play. Very hard to hear. The play was also just.... very boring. Such low energy.
See it if Some of the other actors were good... set is beautiful. Yeah. That's all I got.
Don't see it if Marisa Tomei is HEINOUS in this play. The direction is awful. I do not understand how Cullman gets so much work. I wanted to leave 5 mins in
See it if you just got to see Marisa Tomei, no matter what.
Don't see it if you expect to hear and understand most of the words ... or most of the story ... or you need to have a notion of what the silly set is about
See it if If you just want to see Marisa Tomei or you have seen other Rose Tatoo productions and you want a comparison
Don't see it if It was lacking in any dynamics both of acting and of volume. The entire production is too frantic. The stage is filled chaos.
See it if If you like the actors. If you can sit close enough
Don't see it if You’ve seen a bunch of productions at the American Airlines Theater and realize it’s too big. It’s Like being at the hippodrome! No more!
See it if you love Marisa Tomei - she is fun to watch. How Tennessee Williams wrote this and Roundabout wanted to do... god knows. Silly play.
Don't see it if If you think you are going to see something related to The Glass Menagerie or Streetcar... This feels completely out of place
See it if you want to sit through a longggg play full of stereotypically depicted Italians very poorly portrayed, speaking with dreadful accents.
Don't see it if don't like overly emotional cartoon charactrers and wailing, unnecessary singing.
