Great acting, Original, Disappointing, Clever, Slow

Ambitious, Clever, Creepy, Great staging, Haunting

See it if you enjoy non-traditional musicals. This is dark, weird, intense. The fascinating story engrosses for the short run-time. Chita is stunning.

Don't see it if you are squeamish. The music is not K&E's best, but there was much to like. Excellent use of yellow! Imposing set. Insight into the psyche.

Also I'm re viewing shows that I saw before I joined Show Score. The Visit ... Read more Read less

Ambitious, Original, Relevant, Thought-provoking, Underrated

See it if something different and darker from most Broadway musicals would fit the bill. This is a tale of karma twisted into a cruel comeuppance.

Don't see it if you want a popcorn show for your viewing pleasure. This unique take on consequences when there is no forgiveness is compelling, not fluffy.

See it if One word.... Chita!

Don't see it if You don't like a tad of avante garde and dark.

Dated, Entertaining, Original, Slow, Great acting

See it if You want to see Chita Rivera (she still has some moves) in a role where she acts far more than she sings and dances.

Don't see it if don't like Chita Rivera or plot lines moving back and forth between the past and the present

Absorbing, Edgy, Dark, Great writing, Resonant

See it if you like intense dark musicals. This is the last great Kander and Ebb score and based on a great play of German symbolism. Brilliant!

Don't see it if you are looking for happy light hearted fare. This is a difficult work and not for everyone but worth the effort.

Quirky, Original, Slow

Ambitious, Confusing, Great acting, Indulgent, Overrated

See it if This is 1 of those shows that U like cause it allows Chita Rivera to return to the Bdwy stage. The plot & the songs are ok, but CHITA is all

Don't see it if No Chita?? Why bother. A revenge plot may be entertaining to mean-spirited folks, maybe even longtime fans of Kander & Ebb, but beyond that?

Absorbing, Ambitious, Original, Resonant, Thought-provoking

See it if You want to see Chita still somehow killing it in a jazzy and eerie musical. This was very thought-provoking.

Don't see it if You don't like Kander and Ebb scores or if you want to have a light night at the theatre.

Intense, Darkly comic, Great staging, Bitingly satric, Nostalgically romantic

See it if you're excited by Kander and Ebb and Chita Rivera, you like John Doyle's stripped-down style you like bitingly satiric comedy

Don't see it if Joyous sadism will bother you

Ambitious, Great acting

See it if CHITA! Also, if you love Kander & Ebb. It has its flaws, but so worthwhile to see their last collaboration. Beautiful dance number w/Chita

Don't see it if you expect a fun, fluffy evening of musical theatre.

Enchanting, Quirky, Original, Macabre

See it if you like an original idea.

Don't see it if don't like themes about death, revenge and decay.

Clever, Delightful, Profound, Edgy, Dark

See it if If you're looking for a unique, dark musical where the mostly-string score is haunting along with the tale and its well-toned characters;

Don't see it if If you don't like dark musicals with a great amount of music; May be inappropriate if under 12;

Confusing, Intense, Masterful, Intelligent, Thought-provoking

See it if If you want to see a very well thought out show by a great writing team and starring a true legend.

Don't see it if If you don't like really deep shows that can be confusing to follow.

Absorbing, Original, Intense, Ambitious, Entertaining

See it if you like Kander and Ebb musicals. They like dark themes. This is no exception. Uneven but story and performances were strong. Chita!

Don't see it if you like light, syrupy musicals or happy endings.

"'The Visit' only rarely shakes off a stasis that suggests a carefully carved mausoleum frieze. Nor does the show ever quite make peace between its uneasily twinned strands of merciless cynicism and a softer sentimentality...'That 'The Visit' still holds the attention has much to do with Ms. Rive...

"It remains fascinating and alluring, if finally repetitive and frustrating...For all its flaws, though, you would never say the cast and crew of this often hypnotizing, eerie experiment were driven by fear or the lust for lucre."

"The better the songs are, the weirder the show gets. There is, it seems to me, something ultimately incompatible in the marriage of this prime example of the European absurd and American show-must-go-on razzmatazz. Alienation and gregariousness make strange co-stars, but then so did Kander and E...

"A second-tier Kander and Ebb score is better than a lot of musical craftsmen's best, which makes 'The Visit' a welcome curiosity...The funereal show's shortage of tonal variation makes it harder to love...One of the production's rewards is the thrilling choral singing and exquisitely textured ha...
