About the show

Now in its seventeenth year on Broadway, this all-ages musical spectacle tells the untold true story of the Witches of Oz. More…

"Wicked" looks at what happened in the Land of Oz…but from a different angle. Long before Dorothy arrives, there is another young woman, born with emerald-green skin—smart, fiery, misunderstood, and possessing an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships…until the world decides to call one “good,” and the other one “wicked.”

See it if You love the Wizard of Oz and you like to see themes turned on their head. I very much enjoyed it but ...

Don't see it if I'm not sure why I was disappointed in this play. Had a great cast, it just didn't really reach me.

Delightful, Entertaining, Cliched, Fluffy, Overrated

See it if you are a tween to twenty year old girl or her parent, it resonates with them

Don't see it if are an adult male that doesn't enjoy sweet sappy musicals

Enchanting, Great staging, Original, Great singing

See it if you like the Wizard of Oz and are interested in alternative views of traditional stories.

Don't see it if wizards and witches are not your thing and you are not impressed by outstanding singing.

Clever, Entertaining, Relevant, Fluffy, Enchanting

See it if you're a human person. It has something for everyone; great story, songs, staging, humor, heart - a home run.

Don't see it if you hate musicals. I can't think of any good reason.

Enchanting, Dated, Overrated, Entertaining

See it if you're enthralled with the magic of Oz or love the music.

Don't see it if you're expecting the show to be of the same quality as the early Broadway production. I feel that Wicked has lost it's initial spark.

Enchanting, Clever

See it if you want a clever backstory to the witches from wizard of oz....interesting....well staged....if you are a theater person you should see it

Don't see it if you don't like belting out songs....most of the show is belting....lots of high notes long and loud..

Absorbing, Entertaining, Great acting, Great staging, Must see

See it if you enjoy a good story that is easy to follow

Don't see it if you don't enjoy flying monkeys

Enchanting, Delightful, Great singing, Fantasy-wonderland, Refreshing

See it if you enjoy clever reimaginings of iconic childhood stories, portrayed masterfully and comically, as well as poignantly, by a talented cast.

Don't see it if you don't have an open-mind to consider Oz figures a la L. Frank Baum in a new light; aren't a child at heart; dislike fantastic spectacle.

Great staging, Overrated, Mean-spirited, Entertaining

See it if all your friends have gone and they've liked it. I imagine Idina Menzel must have been amazing in it.

Don't see it if you prefer not to watch non-stop bullying.

Great singing

See it if Powerful, defying women are demonized and popular, pretty women are scorned. Almost a lose-lose situation for feminism.

Don't see it if Don't like new Broadway classics.

Also Ticket from in-person lottery for $30.

Enchanting, Delightful, Entertaining, Masterful, Great singing

See it if You will walk out singing the musical score! It has become an American classic.

Don't see it if Just Go See IT!

Ambitious, Confusing, Great staging, Epic, Original

See it if Prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the staging and costumes were dazzling, the plot ambitious and confusing. Some epic songs, the rest mediocre.

Don't see it if You don't have the patience to follow a convoluted plot over 3 1/2 hours; you don't like every song at the same loud, belting intensity.

Clever, Confusing, Great singing, Great staging, Overrated

See it if huge, grandiose, epic, old-school musicals (Les Miz, Phantom, Cats) are your thing. It's MAGnanimous & visually dazzling, w/a great message.

Don't see it if for you, less is more. There is no "less" here. AT ALL. Even so, I was underwhelmed. There's a reason "Avenue Q" won the 2004 Tony Award.

Entertaining, Great acting, Great singing, Great staging, Clever

Don't see it if you don't like musicals .

Entertaining, Clever, Ambitious, Commercial, Fun

See it if You want a clever, ambitious and modern take on a story so integrated into American culture that it's become part of the national DNA.

Don't see it if You want memorable songs or lyrics; unlike the terrific visual and conceptual spectacle, most of the score is instantly forgettable.

Also Revisiting the show several times over the years, it's striking not on... Read more Read less

"In retrospect, Wicked seems an early sign of the cultural clout which is to say buying power of a generation of girls (and now women) whose desire to see, read, and sing along with stories about female empowerment has become a snowballing trend."

"A musical prequel to The Wizard of Oz, that explained how the Wicked Witch of the West got that way, and explored her true relationship to Glinda the Good Witch. A combination of outstanding elements."

"Two of the producers of the musical Wicked bear the name Platt, which (in German) means flat, and one the name Stone, which (in English) means heavy. Why not also one called Long, although it is too much to ask for one called Boring, all of which apply to the show."

"'Wicked's' at its cleverest with the girl stuff; the streamlining of Maguire’s story – reducing a totalitarian allegory to an animal-rights flap – weakens the narrative logic. Catchy Stephen Schwartz songs compensate for a dreary opening number, but it’s the 'Wicked' witches who really make magic."
