Beautiful!, Great singing, Great staging, Great acting, Enchanting

See it if you love the traditional story & songs but want to see them stunningly come to life on stage. Laura Benanti is phenomenal as Eliza; must see

Don't see it if you don't care for more traditional shows with more dialogue that can slow the pace down. Don't see it if you're not a fan of the story.

Also Absolutely gorgeous production! The staging is great, as are the perfo... Read more Read less

Entertaining, Funny, Inspiring, Fluffy, Talented kids

See it if you liked the movie and want to see kids perform their own instruments on stage. There are a few standout songs, but not all are winners.

Don't see it if you are looking for something with more depth or don't like rock/pop/musicals. Overall, pretty enjoyable though.

Entertaining, Fluffy, Banal, Great staging, Disappointing

See it if you need to see every Disney show, have kids & love the movie. "Let it Go" is a standout song & Sven is mesmerizing. The effects are cool.

Don't see it if you're hoping for deeper character development, out of this world staging & catchy new songs. Disappointing that they didn't do more with it

For a previous production
Hilarious, Great staging, Entertaining, Clever, Slap-stick fun

See it if you like silly, witty, slap-stick humor and watching actors go through every bad acting cliche in the book. LOL funny and very entertaining!

Don't see it if you want something with a more substantial plot or if you're not a fan of physical humor.

Raunchy, Hilarious, Great staging, Must see, So. much. fun.

See it if you want an original spin on the story w/ amazing stagecraft & performances. Even fans of the film will be surprised at what happens next!

Don't see it if you have young kids. It's got crude language/sexual references (PG-13). I probably wouldn't recommend this for anyone under age 18.

Absorbing, Great staging, Great singing, Enthralling fable, Emotionally-charged

See it if you want an immersive theatre experience w/ fantastic staging, singing & dancing. I loved the creative storytelling & emotion at work here.

Don't see it if you want a deeper story/plot or are looking for a more traditional musical. This is a fable with a simple plot but a lot of heart!

Great acting, Must see, Resonant, Masterful, Classic & timeless

See it if you've never seen it on stage before and you're a fan of the music and don't mind that it's sung-through. Great acting & singing - must see.

Don't see it if you don't like depressing/tragic storylines or historical subject matter. It's sung-through, so it could be hard to sit through for some.

Also This review is based on the touring production.

Entertaining, Slow, Fluffy, Fun, Banal

See it if you love Gloria Estefan & her music. It's a fun show that may make you want to dance, but it's not groundbreaking. A true jukebox musical.

Don't see it if you want something more profound or thought-provoking. You already know how this story is going to end and the first act can be slow.

Also This review is based on the touring production.

Entertaining, Fluffy, Slow, Fun, Great staging

See it if You were a fan of the movie & like "fairy-tale" type of stories. The use of projections is cool, but there's not too much depth added here.

Don't see it if You're looking for something more substantive with more of a main conflict within the story. It's a pretty show, but doesn't push boundaries

78
Great staging, Absorbing, Immersive, Slow, Dizzying

See it if You want a unique, immersive show that allows the audience to join the fun. The staging is incredible and when it works, it's great.

Don't see it if You want a more traditional type of musical with a more linear plot and stage design or if you don't like sung-through pop-rock operas.

Also I loved the fact that the audience gets to participate - from catching... Read more Read less

See it if You want to see a truly uplifting, resonant and funny show that will restore your faith in humanity. Brilliant acting & staging - must see!

Entertaining, Funny, Quirky, Fluffy, Great staging

See it if you like a show with some flashy numbers, costumes and funny/quirky characters. At it's heart it's about accepting those for who they are.

Don't see it if you aren't comfortable w/ drag queens or have trouble understanding British accents. It can start off a little slow, but gains momentum.

Also This review is based on the touring production.

77
Entertaining, Funny, Delightful, Great staging, Clever

See it if you love a fun, high-flying spectacle with amazing acrobatics. It's about finding your place in the world & what makes for a meaningful life

Don't see it if you want to see something deeper/more dramatic or if you don't care for the circus-theme of this production.

Also This review is based on the touring production.

Confusing, Original, Thought-provoking, Disappointing, Great singing

See it if you like Idina & you can handle a more abstract concept for a musical- it's interesting, but not a razzle-dazzle type of show.

Don't see it if you have trouble paying attention to plots- it wasn't always clear which version of the character she was playing. Can be slow/confusing.

Also This review is based on pre-Broadway run in D.C.

75
Entertaining, Fluffy, Funny, Clever, Legendary

See it if you love classic musicals w/ out elaborate sets. Great song & dance show that's extremely entertaining - which is why it's lasted so long.

Don't see it if you want a deeper plot & more grandiose production. It plays out like more of a cabaret musical review w/ less of a linear plot.

Also This review is based on the touring productions.

For a previous production
Entertaining, Funny, Overrated, Absorbing, Great singing

See it if you love The Four Seasons & enjoy jukebox musicals. Great for baby boomer generation and older.

Don't see it if you are looking for an original score & don't like jukebox musicals. It's interesting & worth seeing, but it's over-hyped.

87
Hilarious, Relevant, Raunchy, Entertaining, Edgy

See it if Hilarious, original & perfectly describes life in your 20s/30s, trying to find your place in the world. It's adult Sesame Street!

Don't see it if You don't like puppets (or stimulated puppet sex) or some crude/raunchy humor. Recommended for ages 17 and up.

50
Raunchy, Overrated, Original, Funny, Disappointing

See it if You like South Park and shockingly crude/offensive types of humor (although LOL at times) with an original story.

Don't see it if You are looking for family-friendly fare - this is an extremely raunchy show and is NOT for everyone. It's over-hyped/overrated.

Also This review is based on the touring production.

55
Disappointing, Overrated, Quirky, Mildly-amusing

See it if You enjoy some slapstick, British-style humor with some inventive staging and quick changes.

Don't see it if You're expecting LOL funny - this isn't that. The score is also mostly unmemorable - almost no catchy songs - hard to sit through at times.

Also This review is based on the touring production.

For a previous production
Cliched, Great acting, Pretty score, Predictable

See it if You're a blue-grass fan & like stories taking place in the South during the 1920s & 1940s. Pretty, but unmemorable score with good acting.

Don't see it if You're looking for a show-stopping musical. This isn't one. It's a pretty show without a lot of substance and a predictable plot.

80
Intense, Great acting, Edgy, Entertaining, Resonant

See it if You like an absorbing story about Hedwig discovering herself and love told w/ flare & just the right amount of snark with a punk rock score.

Don't see it if You aren't comfortable with at times vulgar language/sexual innuendo, transgender issues or a non-traditional musical format. Not for kids.

78
Overrated, Family-friendly, Entertaining, Fluffy, Enchanting

See it if You are a fan of the movie, Peter Pan or have kids. It has some truly magical & show stopping moments, but may leave you in tears at the end

Don't see it if You don't like make believe, a heavily pop-influenced score or are looking for a more serious/thought-provoking and less saccharine story.

100
Absorbing, Intelligent, Relevant, Must see, Epic

See it if You want to see a high-energy, exciting and revolutionary show w/ superb acting/staging and intelligent material. Best show I've ever seen.

Don't see it if You have small children, as the material will be over their heads and the show does use explicit language.

60
Funny, Enjoyable, but lacks depth, Cliched, Banal, Disappointing

See it if you like Italian/American coming of age stories & a book/score that's passably entertaining but unremarkable by most accounts.

Don't see it if you want a story w/ more plot and character depth & emotion instead of a Jersey Boys/West Side Story hybrid that doesn't live up to either

Entertaining, Great singing, Standard jukebox bio-musical, Slow, Fun

See it if you love Carole King & her music. It offers an interesting look at her life, hit tunes, love life and star trajectory. It's a fun time.

Don't see it if you don't like predictable jukebox musicals. You know how it's going to end from the get-go and some parts can be slow.

Also This review is based on the touring production.

80
Real, Thought-provoking, Relevant, Intense, Resonant

See it if You want to see a realistic, raw show that deals w/ racism & social-political issues about what it means to be white/black in the USA.

Don't see it if Hearing intense, real, but important, timely conversations is not your thing. It makes you listen to others' perspectives. Not a fluff piece

Charming, Funny, Enjoyable, Great acting, Cute

See it if you like cute, fluffy political-themed musical comedies. It's enjoyable with some funny moments - great acting from D. Gehling & D. Sills!

Don't see it if you're looking for a more serious drama or realistic plot. The humor lies in poking fun at our government shortcomings - regardless of party

Thought-provoking, Intense, Relevant, Disappointing, Slow

See it if you're interested in an intense family drama, are comfortable with an LGBTQ storyline, and are curious why it won the Tony.

Don't see it if you're looking for a linear plot line, happy ending/closure or catchy-showstopping music. I expected to like this more than I did, honestly.

Also This review is based on the touring production.

During previews
Entertaining, Great singing, Great staging, Great choreography, Fluffy

See it if you liked the film (this is a pretty faithful & fun adaptation) and you like lighthearted shows. The cast, dancing & staging were very good.

Don't see it if you expect to leave humming the songs/lyrics - they need work. It also doesn't add much depth to the source material & not all jokes land.

See it if you like classic, traditional, romantic-comedy musicals. It's a fun throwback with big dance numbers and cute, witty banter. Very enjoyable!

Great staging, Clever, Thought-provoking, Intense, Unique experience

See it if You are looking for a one-of-a-kind show. Stagecraft is used to full effect to put you in the shoes of this autistic kid's world.

Don't see it if You don't like intense family drama. Things are stated very matter of factly from Christopher's POV which doesn't always allow for depth

Also This review is based on the touring production.

70
Boring, Saccharine, Great singing, Fluffy, Slow

See it if You like Jessie Mueller & enjoy an uninspired but sweet show. A few standout performances from Mueller & Fitzgerald. Overall good, not great

Don't see it if You want music w/ stronger hooks/depth, or more of a spectacle or orginality. The first act is slow, but gets better in act 2.

95
Delightful, Great acting, Romantic, Superbly cast, winning story with a lot of heart, Enchanting

See it if you love a sweet, classic romantic musical comedy. Laura Benanti & Zachery Levi are incredible!! A feel-good show that's a delight to watch!

Don't see it if you don't like fluffier subject matter or the basic plot of the movie "You've Got Mail." (But it's worth streaming on BroadwayHD!)

Dated, Banal, Cliched, Quirky, Great acting

See it if you get a chance to see it with Angela Landsbury and enjoy British-style humor - it's well-acted & amusing even if the story is a bit dated

Don't see it if you want to see something more modern and/or fast-paced. It's billed as a comedy, but it's not really LOL-type of funny; a bit cliched.

Clever, Original, Refreshing, High-energy, Modern

See it if you like an original story told w/ a mix of hip-hop, salsa & standard b'way music. Highlights modern family/culture in a fun, relatable way.

Don't see it if you want to see something more traditional, old-school Broadway or you don't care for Lin-Manuel Miranda's style of writing.

79
Fluffy, Delightful, Enchanting, Great staging, Mesmorizing

See it if you love the movie - it's a faithful adaptation. The puppetry, costumes, dancing & staging are amazing! A great show for kids & families.

Don't see it if you want a more thought-provoking experience. Much of the dialogue is lifted from the movie and the book doesn't offer much more depth.

Also This review is based on the touring productions.

80
Enchanting, Entertaining, Great staging, Romantic, Delightful

See it if You're a Disney fan and enjoyed the movie. The sets, costumes and spectacle do not disappoint.

Don't see it if You want something more original and less family-friendly.

88
Masterful, Epic, Exquisite, Great acting, Melodious

See it if You want to see an epic, beautiful, chill-inducing score that's must-see theatre. It's the longest-running show for a reason.

Don't see it if You're not a classic/operatic musical lover or are looking for lighter a experience.

86
Absorbing, Must see, Clever, Enchanting, Female power house

See it if You love an original story with a fantastic score and show-stopping female belting. It re-frames Wizard of Oz in surprising, unexpected ways

Don't see it if You're not a fan of Stephen Schwartz, stories w/ strong female leads... But seriously, who doesn't like Wicked?

Hilarious, Original, Great acting, Entertaining

See it if You're looking for a fun/silly night out, enjoy loads of Broadway references, some show-stopping numbers and fabulous acting.

Don't see it if You're looking for more serious/deep fare or you're not familiar w/ a lot of popular Broadway shows, as some jokes could go over your head.

85
Entertaining, Great staging, Funny, Enchanting, Great movie adapation

See it if You like the movie, Disney magic and Adam Jacobs' abs. Great family show, superb acting/singing, with a few cheesy/cliche moments.

Don't see it if You are looking for a deeper, more serious story or you don't like Disney or Alan Menken's scores.

Banal, Confusing, Dated, Disappointing, Insipid

See it if You like old-fashioned/traditional musicals with a beautiful set design. (Saw Kennedy Center version before moving to Broadway).
