The Front Page
Midtown W
Dated, Disappointing, Slow, Funny, Great writing

See it if you're a huge Nathan Lane fan (but be advised he's only in about 1/3 of the show) or you enjoy seeing period pieces.

Don't see it if you're easily offended by dated views of a period piece or you prefer 90 min one acts. (The show is almost 3 hours with 2 intermissions.)

Banal, Cliched, Disappointing, Insipid, Overrated

See it if you must see Diane Lane on stage before you die. You enjoy seeing Chekov despite how horribly it is directed/misunderstood.

Don't see it if you love Chekov, or love an actor in the show and don't want your opinion of them ruined.

The Encounter

Absorbing, Clever, Entertaining, Ambitious, Original

See it if you're open to different ways of telling a story, aural experiences, and original work.

Don't see it if you don't enjoy one man shows, prefer a more traditional method of storytelling, or aren't interested in a sound piece.

A Day by the Sea
Midtown W
Great acting, Great staging, Entertaining, Intelligent, Masterful

See it if you enjoy well acted, thoughtful and moving theater.

Don't see it if you prefer something more upbeat that moves quickly.

Waitress (NYC)
Midtown W
Delightful, Enchanting, Great singing, Great acting, Refreshing

See it if you love great singing and more contemporary music. It's a very hopeful piece.

Don't see it if you prefer cynical jaded material or more classic musical theater.

Great singing, Great staging, Romantic, Epic

See it if you love the score, love the story, love classic New York musical theater. It's still a lavish production.

Don't see it if you're not a Lloyd Webber fan or prefer more thought-provoking, edgy work.

The Humans
Midtown W
Great acting, Great writing, Must see, Original, Entertaining

See it if you enjoy original, thought provoking plays that both move you and make you think.

Don't see it if you don't enjoy family "kitchen table" drama.

Midtown W
Great acting, Great singing, Great staging, Profound, Resonant

See it if you are a fan of any of the cast (they all, arguably, do some of their best work) or you love musicals that hit all the feels

Don't see it if you don't like shows about homosexuals or you don't enjoy smaller, intimate musicals that are more about acting than spectacle.

Two Class Acts
Quirky, Great staging, Great acting, Entertaining, Relevant

See it if you enjoy Gurney, are a fan of Younger, enjoy discussions about the conflicts of the middle east, enjoy stories of gay men in the closet.

Don't see it if you don't like previous Gurney plays, will be confused by two different casts doing two vastly different plays.

Chicago (NYC)
Midtown W
Quirky, Great staging, Dated, Entertaining, Ambitious

See it if you love the movie, love great dancing, or love whichever pop star of the moment is in it. It's still classic Bob Fosse.

Don't see it if you're not a Bob Fosse fan, you prefer more contemporary musical theater, or aren't into dance musicals.

Delightful, Enchanting, Entertaining, Great singing, Riveting

See it if you love Estefan's music and story and enjoy upbeat musicals.

Don't see it if you don't enjoy jukebox musicals, Estefan's music or story.

Ambitious, Delightful, Enchanting, Entertaining, Great singing

See it if you love classic Gershwin music, breath-taking dancing, and fun romantic musicals.

Don't see it if you enjoy cynical edgy work or don't want to see long dance sequences.

Something Rotten!
Midtown W
Banal, Cliched, Overrated, Great singing, Disappointing

See it if you just love everything musical theater or love shows that take one joke and milk it for 2 1/2 hours.

Don't see it if one joke shows bore you. By the middle of act one, you'll be over it.

Enchanting, Delightful, Entertaining, Great singing, Great acting

See it if love Carole King's music and are interested in her life story.

Don't see it if you don't enjoy jukebox musicals.
