If you like this person's taste, follow him!
See it if You want a laugh out loud comedy. Great book with rapid fire jokes delivered by a crackerjack cast. Not the greatest score by Yazbeck.
Don't see it if You're offended by the conceit (man dresses as woman to get work). You want a MUSICAL musical rather than a comedy.
See it if You love Cher and her music. The book is thin, but the leads are great and the chorus is terrific. Spectacular costumes for the entire cast!
Don't see it if You aren’t a fan of Cher, or don’t care for jukebox musicals. I enjoyed the variety show framing device, but I grew up with these shows.
See it if You want a clever laugh out loud script with a well written pop score. Standout comic performances by the older cast . Sweet message as well
Don't see it if You don’t want a show about gay teens or over the top actors. To me The Prom is the 2018 version of an Adler/ Ross Musical. Go enjoy!
See it if You like the film and want to see it as a musical. Strong book, good actors and a weak score. The songs are disappointing
Don't see it if You don’t want to see a teen based pop musical.
See it if You’re interested in seeing some great actors in a thought provoking piece. Will no doubt get stronger throughout previews.
Don't see it if You aren’t interested in the actors or a riff on the meaning of comedy vs tragedy.
See it if You want a simple, fairly well told story with some nice performances. You're interested in gay history.
Don't see it if It takes a while to get going, some of the lyrics are cliched and the music is just okay. Still, a heartfelt production.
See it if You've never seen Travesties and are a Stoppard fan or you love Tom Hollander.
Don't see it if I love this script, but the dense language and wordplay are not for everyone and this production isn't the greatest.
See it if You like big band/swing music of this era. Dancing is great, but I found the movement relentless and busy to cover up a lack of storytelling
Don't see it if You aren't interested in the WWII era or melodrama.
See it if You want old fashioned musical comedy heaven. Stunning production with great singing, dancing and design elements.
Don't see it if You only like contemporary musicals with pop rock scores- but to be honest I STILL think you'll love it!
See it if Clever concept and some nice staging. One of my favorite musicals, and I'm up for new productions, but the pies were my favorite thing.
Don't see it if You want a full ensemble and don't want cuts to the score ( no City On Fire or The Letter, etc.)
See it if You want to see two music theatre legends in a showcase for their talents. Ebersole and LuPone are terrific.
Don't see it if You have no interest in these ladies. The show is a vehicle for them, and while beautifully staged and designed, th material is so-so.
See it if You want to see Encores doing exactly what it was created to do- rescue old shows lost to time. Fabulous cast and orchestra.
Don't see it if You expect a great book or aren't interested in seeing an old show, warts and all. The Jimmy Durante songs are head scratchers . .
See it if You want a clever combination of Vaudeville and magic. Seeing this at The Palace gives the "Turn of The Century" theme that much more fun.
Don't see it if You don't like magic shows or vaudeville acts.
See it if You love South Park and irreverent humor. Clever but derivative staging and laugh out loud script and score.
Don't see it if You are offended by crude humor/bad language. You want to take kids under 10 with you
See it if You like pop rock scores and a big Broadway experience. Packs an emotional wallop for teens and OZ lovers.
Don't see it if No interest in Oz or little patience with potentially confusing plot.
See it if you like an original story with an intelligent pop score and great lead performances
Don't see it if You want a splashy evening.
See it if You like dance, Gershwin music and beautiful, clever design elements.
Don't see it if You want a big orchestra with your Gershwin or good acting from the dance leads.
See it if Great staging of an okay script. I wouldn't want to see a community theatre production, but the Broadway (London) staging terrific.
Don't see it if You dislike flashy high tech stagings and tons of projections.
See it if You like a theme park atmosphere and a loud in your face comedy. Great cast, great physical production, but relentless.
Don't see it if You like old fashioned scores or have a low tolerance for crass humor.
See it if You are interested in seeing the puppet The sets and lighting a very good and Kong is stupendous, but the songs are painful. Why a musical?
Don't see it if You want good songs and good acting. Should have been a spectacular play like Harry Potter.
See it if You love the film and want a slavishly paint by the numbers musical version . Samantha Barks is spectacular and the entire cast is good.
Don't see it if You don’t care for the film or find the idea of a hooker/ Cinderella story distasteful. Generic but catchy pop tunes with awful rhymes.
See it if You are interested in a new staging and like Mary Testa or Ali Stoker. Most of the acting is good.
Don't see it if You want clear story telling, great ensemble singing or great dancing. A bare bones production with heavy handed direction.
See it if Beautiful story told with honesty and heart. Katrina Lenk gives a stunning performance
Don't see it if Not a splashy Broadway Musical. Thought provoking rather than “an entertainment” although I loved it!
See it if You love Charles Busch and gang or are a fan of well acted camp. Over the top but honest acting at its finest! Brava!
Don't see it if You don't like the above- but honestly, this is as good as this genre of theatre gets. As both writer and star Busch is a master.
See it if You like great singing and want a mindless night out- probably with a group of girlfriends. Nancy Opel is fantastic as is the entire cast.
Don't see it if You don't want jokes about middle age sex, middle age dating, etc.
See it if You want a clever script well staged. Good cast with Andy Karl doing strong work. I fond the leading lady bland which hurt the show.
Don't see it if You didn't like Matilda f on much of the sam creative team. The score isn't as strong and the story is less compelling overall.
See it if Love this music and can overlook a weak book. Most of the acting rises above the material and music is first rate- espcially the band.
Don't see it if You're looking for a strong book musical with three dimensional characters or don't love Miami Sound Machine music.
See it if You love great acting. All four actors are terrific, with Metcalf and Houdyshell outstanding. I loved this script and production.
Don't see it if You don't want an author messing with A Doll House?
See it if You love these actors and want to see them. The production is disappointing at best.
Don't see it if You've seen any of the recent, far better revivals, or saw Sally Field in D.C like I did. Wish I'd stuck with my memory of that production.
See it if You haven't. Q is still delightful and relevant after all these years. Good score, great book.
Don't see it if You want a big Broadway musical. You're offended by raunchy themes and puppet nudity and sex!
See it if You loved the movie and want an undemanding Disney channel sitcom show. Mostly two dimensional characters.
Don't see it if You're expecting a highly melodic Lloyd Webber score. One of his lesser works with many recycled tunes from various former projects.
See it if You love Irving Berlin tunes sung well and some clever choreography.
Don't see it if You don't care for old fashioned shows, or value a good script.
See it if You enjoy improv and are willing to take a risk. I've seen the show a few times, and while the actors are good, it really is hit or miss.
Don't see it if You don't like improv or sketch comedy.
See it if You enjoy a spectacle and the Elton John Tim Rice pop songs from the movie.
Don't see it if You care more about the book and score than the physical production. The second act really drags.
See it if You like pop rock scores and a cliched but audience pleasing script. I know I'm in the minority here, but a weak show overall.
Don't see it if A good book is essential for you to enjoy a musical
See it if You want to see a great production of this musical. Terrific lead performances make the material seem better than it is.
Don't see it if You want a light fluffy evening out
See it if A beautiful production of a great show. Wonderful direction and terrific performances.
Don't see it if More a play told with music with each character having one solo moment. No pretty costumes or big dance numbers.
See it if Enjoy a beautifully staged spectacle and hearing a FULL Broadway orchestra. Phantom remains in good shape after all these years
Don't see it if You want thought provoking theatre.
