Banal, Slow

See it if you are desperate to see this Brecht play, regardless of the quality. poorly acted, TERRIBLY directed. Lifeless. Total lack of danger.

Don't see it if you are hoping for a quality evening of theater. Classic Stage, despite their reputation, disappoints again.

Disappointing, Insipid, Banal

See it if you know someone in it

Don't see it if you want to care about any characters, see a piece with contemporary relevance, see appropriately cast actors. A grave disappointment.

Absorbing, Great acting, Masterful

See it if you love well spoken, well acted Shakespeare. Very strong, very accessible production. Every word and intention was clear. Pretty set too!

Don't see it if you prefer your classics avant garde.

Party Face
Midtown W
Entertaining, Great acting, Fluffy

See it if you want an easy "kitchen sink" comedy with fun female characters and a few serious bits. Great actors, many with gorgeous Irish accents!

Don't see it if you want a knee-slapper, or if you want a tightly-written play whose author had a clear sense of what she was aiming for.

Banal, Cliched, Overrated

See it if no reason to see it. I hated it from the opening moments. Some of the actors tried their best.

Don't see it if I've like Mark Rylance before, but this was just awful. Embarrassing in parts.

Delightful, Funny, Riveting

See it if you enjoy very well done "Storybook" theater. Funny, moving, creative, active. Loved it! Mary slayed me!

Don't see it if you want straightforward retelling of a Jane austen classic.

The Parisian Woman
Midtown W
Slow, Relevant

See it if you like Uma Thurman, who did a nice job, or love political intrigue (though slapdashedly handled).

Don't see it if you like more polished, well written plays that don't feel thrown together. seemed like a good first workshop of a play with some promise.

The Enchantment
Absorbing, Resonant, Thought-provoking, Great acting

See it if you want to see a brilliant, beautifully acted play. The text and the back-story are interesting. Production is spellbinding, provocative

Don't see it if you are not interested in though-provoking drama in the vein of Hedda Gabler

Sleep No More
Absorbing, Clever, Edgy

See it if you want a theatrical experience like nothing else you've ever seen. The immersive aspect is thrilling and creative. Don't worry about plot!

Don't see it if you want a linear plot that makes "sense," or expect a traditional play.

Clever, Entertaining, Quirky

See it if you like contemporary musical theater, with an edge. The leading man is fantastic. Plot is interesting. Music gets the job done, not more.

Don't see it if you don't want to see a whole number celebrating different ways to commit suicide.

Wicked (NYC)
Midtown W
Absorbing, Enchanting, Great singing, Epic

See it if you like classic musical theater--great songs, great singing, great costumes and staging. Exciting show. No surprise it's a long-running hit

Don't see it if You don't "get" musical theater

Funny, Great acting, Relevant

See it if you want a gay "classic" beautifully mounted and very well acted by a top-shelf cast

Don't see it if you will be annoyed by being ce rged by the self hatred and struggles of the characters. We're so far removed in some ways... but not in all

Operation Crucible
Midtown W
Great acting, Intelligent, Absorbing

See it if strong ensemble acting and well staged "slice of life" drama appeals. Touching story and insights into a. back corner or WWII.

Don't see it if you prefer very contemporary writing or staging. Was not "conventional" but wasn't edgy either.

Dinner With Georgette
East Village
Ambitious, Entertaining, Confusing, Quirky, Absorbing

See it if u like experimental, non-linear pieces with strong acting and singing. Been a while since I saw something so wacky, but I really enjoyed it.

Don't see it if you want the plot (even the non-linear one) to make much sense. Somewhere in the avant-gardity the playwright lost focus IMHO. But see it!

Dogs of Rwanda
Resonant, Interesting, Thought provoking, Great drummer

See it if you want a thoughtful exploration of forgiveness, blame and the repercussions of genocide. It's dark at times, but not too heavy.

Don't see it if you require brilliant writing (script could use tightening/a little more clarity in what it's trying to achieve), or don't like 1-man shows

Also The drummer ("Musician") was excellent and a great addition to the sho... Read more Read less

Absorbing, Enchanting, Refreshing

See it if you like hearing a strong cast sing a lively, joyous score.

Don't see it if you want to hear every word. Sound was terrible where I sat.

Fire and Air

Intelligent, Slow, Blah

See it if interested in the history of ballet. I enjoyed learning about this aspect of art in 20th century. Also had muscled scantily clad young men!

Don't see it if you are looking for Mr. McNally's next great work. For me, the text lacked intensity or drama, sorry to say!

Peter Pan
Midtown W
Disappointing, Insipid, Excruciating

See it if // I've loved their productions in the past but this was a major miss for me, sorry. Actors did their best with poor, disjointed material.

Don't see it if // They took a sweet story & found the sexy adult side... w/o being sexy or clever or thought through. Felt like a school project gone bad.

The Violin

Banal, Dated, Great acting, Intense, Old fashioned

See it if you like string male acting, family drama and traditional NY ethnic characters (Italian/Irish), and don't mind the F word

Don't see it if you're looking for contemporary writing or plotting

Oslo (Broadway)
Upper W Side
Intelligent, Thought-provoking, Relevant

See it if you like history and want to know more about the Oslo peace accords. A highbrow piece of theater, well done overall.

Don't see it if you prefer fast moving or funny plays. I had quibbles with some of the acting (find a spot between unsupported and shouting) and staging

For a previous production
Great acting, Hilarious, Fluffy

See it if you want a good, goofy laugh. I've seen it 2Xand laughed hysterically both times. Not high-brow at ALL...but funnier than most recent shows

Don't see it if you don't like slapstick, physical comedy and goofball humor. The actors are quite good at it though...possibly enough to win you over!

Banal, Disappointing, Overrated

See it if you love Josh Groban, I guess

Don't see it if you like well-written songs with actual lyrics (vs prose). I'm confused as to what all the fuss is about. Cast is energetic w/ poor material
