Absorbing, Clever, Ambitious, Entertaining, Refreshing

See it if MAN! We need more risks like this in theatre. Loved how they utilized their set. May be your poor man's Sleep No More, but it's got merit.

Don't see it if Hades is horrendously miscast. Acting is dodgy sometimes. Dancing could be tightened up.

Also Speaking of tightening up, let me say this: An immersive experience li... Read more Read less

Ambitious, Dated, Great acting, Riveting, Lauren ridloff

See it if Lauren Ridloff. If it's not too much of a hassle, I'd see it JUST for Lauren Ridloff. She gives a performance like none other.

Don't see it if The play's a little dated. Sometimes Joshua Jackson's character is a little questionable. I can't speak much for the story, but its (cont.)

Also its message was a little confusing. I can't tell what it was trying to... Read more Read less

Cliched, Confusing, Disappointing, Excruciating, Indulgent

See it if You identify with the characters. Strong performances from Cassie Beck and Ella Davis. Set is well-done. Adequate direction and staging.

Don't see it if Overloaded, with no discernible convergence to its many subplots. Julie's final monologue is disjointed as heck. READ BELOW.

The Stone Witch
Midtown W
Slow, Thin, Great acting, Enchanting, Ambitious

See it if Has a good message. Gets confused about how to get there. Ambitious exploration of storytelling tactics and concepts, but not reinforced.

Don't see it if Plot is slightly thin.

Great singing, Great ensemble, Profound

See it if Wow! I definitely misjudged Gallery Players. The lead is sensational. Go for William Finn, stay for the cast. And the kick-ass band.

Don't see it if You don't want to haul ass all the way to Brooklyn. Also, the Roger and Mimi were pitchy at times.

Also Can't wait for Chess!

6 Guitars
Soho/Tribeca
Clever, Absorbing, Entertaining, Hilarious, Riveting

See it if you want to be blown away by split-second transitions. Truly forms six distinct musicians, each with their own genre.

Don't see it if I cannot think of a single reason.

Delightful, Entertaining, Fluffy, Quirky, Romantic

See it if you want a glimpse into a Chinese folk tale with tunes creatively arranged from Chinese melodies.

Don't see it if you mind rough edges when it comes to the production and performance. Like a delicious corndog but the condiments aren't applied properly.

Also The plot is oddly Shakespearean, for those who are into that.

Funny, Relevant, Entertaining, Ambitious, Great staging

See it if You enjoy great set design and staging and the relation between a white American and a Mexican satirizing the relationship between states.

Don't see it if You mind explicit language, or sociopolitical issues worded explicitly and/or addressed comically SIMULTANEOUSLY.

Afterglow
Midtown W
Cliched, Entertaining, Overrated, Romantic, Indulgent

See it if HOT. An ode to the male form. Loved how they used the set.

Don't see it if Soap-opera plot. Josh isn't the best actor. Darius's character is a little unrealistic and unconvincing.

Absorbing, Enchanting, Masterful, Resonant, Relevant

See it if Masterful dialogue. Morisseau writes it as it is, much like August Wilson, whose influence Santiago-Hudson definitely brings in. Read below.

Don't see it if You can't pay attention. With playwrights like this, every word is sacred. There is no delivered line that is superfluous or insignificant.

Also No play explores its settings, its characters, and the culture behind ... Read more Read less

Delightful, Entertaining, Great singing, Raunchy, Great dancing

See it if Incredible lead, Chloe Kostman. In fact, all the talent in this company. It's an incredible find in theatre this far from Broadway.

Don't see it if Someone fund a new sound system for them! It works fine, but not all the actors are mic'd, and even the ones who are are sometimes muffled.

Also Continued from above: It's just because of the small space they have t... Read more Read less

Absorbing, Great acting, Profound, Masterful, Intelligent

See it if Excellent writing, excellent acting.

Don't see it if Very much a talk-heavy show. Strong attention recommended. Sacrifices fluff for substance, maybe that's not your thing.

Brooklyn
Ambitious, Absorbing, Enchanting, Intense, Clever

See it if you want a good time. No, I mean it. That's this entire thing in a nutshell. I don't need to repeat that it's immersive or that it's indie.

Don't see it if you only want traditional interpretations of Macbeth.

Also This isn't immersive theatre; immersive theatre is still an illusion. ... Read more Read less

Desperate Measures
Midtown W
Great singing, Funny, Delightful, Fluffy, Entertaining

See it if Shakespeare problem play into a schlapstick Western musical...and it WORKS. Against all odds, it WORKS.

Don't see it if the first act can be a little flat/slow. Hold out until the second.

Also Catchy tunes here and there, really benefits from its 11 o'clock numbe... Read more Read less
