Laura Sisskin Fernandez beautifully and brutally excavates her past and contemplates her present during a pole dancing class with an interesting group of classmates (all portrayed by Laura). As she examines her feelings about moving her body, she begins to unpack how she got to this place in her life where a pole dancing class was needed. Through movement and song, Laura takes us with her and manages to provide us with more than a few belly laughs throughout. While her experiences are specific, her responses are universal. Director Astrid Cook has staged this piece with clarity and maturity; letting the storytelling shine while also keeping the ambitious narrative from running away with itself.
