If you like this person's taste, follow her!
See it if You want to follow a great playwright's work. ("Plano" was amazing!) The actors did a good job but I felt like it was a bit one note.
Don't see it if You don't want a rant about our current socio-political landscape and actors that have free reign (direction was.... IDK, confusing).
See it if you want to hear a fresh new comedic voice in theatre; if you'd like to learn about gender politics, in a fun way; and if you want To Laugh!
Don't see it if You aren't interested in LGBTQIA subject matter.
See it if you're ready to let your mind go & surf on this stream-of-consciousness wave. Dense, creative, thought-provoking. Directing/Writing A+
Don't see it if you need mainstream narrative and like to be spoon-fed
See it if you like Bryan Cranston (even though he went a bit off the actor's deep end) and are curious about the director's work.
Don't see it if you have no tolerance for disparate (often times bizarre) choices (acting, design, directing) - no cohesiveness. I was utterly disappointed
See it if You want to see what a truly imaginative, insanely creative show with a fantastically talented cast looks like. This is what Bway should be
Don't see it if You're suspicious of a kids show being turned into a big musical - but note: if that's your reason it's unfounded! Top notch talent!
See it if You want to see the show that launched Basil Twist 20 years ago; if you appreciate inventive (non-puppet) puppetry in water; live music.
Don't see it if You get bored easily; if an expressionistic puppet show a la "Fantasia" isn't your thing; if you are claustrophobic (the set/seats).
See it if You want to see new, intelligent theatre that breaks the bounds of realism that is poignant, funny & unexpected; great writing, acting, dir.
Don't see it if You're not a fan of alternative realism (surrealism). However, it's sort of masterful how the two are blended.
See it if A solo musical (with a live band) that's hilarious, witty, charming and electrifyingly fun! Be able to say "I saw him when!". Music = A+!
Don't see it if You're not a fan of solo shows (though this doesn't feel like one) and have an aversion to the genre of musical theatre as a whole.
See it if You enjoy experimental theatre from a master and are keen on stylized presentation and direction; enjoy short (50 min!) plays.
Don't see it if You need an easy-to-follow plot and do not like stylized acting choices or staging; or if you're even slightly hard of hearing, low volume.
See it if You're interested in seeing interpretations of Brecht. A few *good* performances - but that was about it. The live scoring was great!
Don't see it if You want to see (mostly) bad acting in an interpretation of Brecht.
See it if Want to hear amazing singers & wonderful songs; great acting across the board esp the leads; a truly wonderful revival; great director
Don't see it if Don't care for classic musicals
See it if You enjoy the music from the movie and want to see an amazing performance from the Genie; some of the dance numbers are pretty good!
Don't see it if You have an aversion to paying top dollar to watch most of the actors phone in their performances (except for the Genie and Iago).
See it if You love spectacle & great production design, the world of Oz, and surprisingly still great acting
Don't see it if You don't like mainstream spoon-fed musicals or if you want great music
See it if you are curious what "Pulitzer" means nowadays; if you feel the need to be preached to in a sitcom/avant-garde mishmash wannabe edgy way.
Don't see it if you're expecting thoughtful new, insight on race issues/problems in this country. And the ending... pretentious on all counts. Insufferable
See it if Certainly, if you like HP. I don't know that world but was still enthralled. Amazing staging, pace & storytelling. Good to great acting!
Don't see it if You aren't into fantasy and have a short attention span (however, I have to say for a fantastically lengthy show it really moves!)
See it if you want to see a clever (and mostly funny) script with really good actors.
Don't see it if after the first 60 minutes you wonder why there's more... great acting and design but a bit one-note for too long... great use of the space.
See it if You enjoy solid acting (regardless of the cliched writing and gratuitous sex). The actors definitely elevated the material.
Don't see it if You think excessive cursing, sex and violence alone makes for theatre.
See it if you like Disney - no matter how poorly produced or imagined.
Don't see it if You care about quality or originality- even if it is Disney (ex. Lion King!); you want phoned-in performances; bland staging; shrill singing
See it if Great stagecraft; good performances from Billie Piper, John MacMillan & Maureen Beattiebut that can't save show's aching desire to "disturb"
Don't see it if You want tidy endings; if you have an aversion to pretentious overwrought cliched theatre; you have aversion to LOUD affected music
See it if You love Noel Coward's writing.
Don't see it if You want to settle for mediocre, expensive NC production. I love Kline but...a Tony?! Pacing and acting styles all over the place. Uneven.
See it if You have patience to sit thru a 90-min show that should be 30; to see Maxwell's work & great stage craft. Want to support experimental arts.
Don't see it if You have short attention span; aren't a fan of Maxwell's style (monotone, rapid fire, sans emotion delivery). Aren't keen on non-traditional
See it if You appreciate creative staging (stagecraft all around) and a handful of pretty talented actors and live music; (Grimaldi storyline great!).
Don't see it if You can't afford to spend just under THREE hours on show that needs serious editing & needs focus, desperately; you're looking for Dickens.
See it if Enjoy the art of monologue and storytelling; memoirs; poetry.
Don't see it if Want to see a play with narrative and traditional structure.
See it if You enjoy contemporary plays that engage you to think and not just be entertained; if you enjoy quality off-broadway theatre; great acting.
Don't see it if You simply want to be entertained, want mindless entertainment; if you don't want to be challenged intellectually.
See it if You enjoy beautiful live music & amazingly talented singers; want something fresh & new, different; an impressionistic musical journey
Don't see it if You prefer mainstream musicals w/ dialogue & straight-forward plot; do not prefer stylized choreogrpahy; do not prefer experimental theatre
