About:  I reside in DC, but I am back to Broadway every chance I get. I love all manner of musical and the best of the straight plays, and I hope my recommendations can help others find the right show for them - and will help keep alive great works that too many people would normally miss!

Disappointing, Banal, Ambitious, Great staging, Entertaining

See it if You want to take in the incredible puppetry, staging, and sound despite a flurry of missed opportunity on nearly every other front.

Don't see it if You are holding out hope that the important messages of this classic tale will come through the thinly-penned book. #missedopportunity

Riveting, Masterful, Great writing, Great staging, Absorbing

See it if The show is a gripping retelling of these myths with really tight staging/artistic direction. The cast is brilliantly talented as well!

Don't see it if The show is a drama set to beautiful music; it's not a Disney musical and isn't meant to be.

Absorbing, Great acting, Great writing, Relevant

See it if you love theater. The performances - particularly in the 2nd act - are amazing. The LGBT parent/child dynamic is as relevant as ever.

Don't see it if Mr. Urie chewing the scenery a bit is going to bother you or if you have no heart.

Delightful, Entertaining, Funny, Great singing

See it if you're a fan of the musical theater! This is a solid show with a really nice score and it runs the gamut from laughs to tears. Really good

Don't see it if you've got young children with you or if you have forgotten that the story isn't necessarily a happy one throughout. Not a blockbuster.

Clever, Enchanting, Entertaining, Great singing

See it if you want to hear this amazing score brought to life by some of the best belters on Broadway. This show is a hit for good reason.

Don't see it if The show is a little slick for some people and the plot will seem trivial to others, but the messages are generally good ones.

Clever, Enchanting, Great staging, Magical

See it if You are at all a fan of the Harry Potter franchise. It's consistent with the storytelling of the novels, and is pretty certain to delight.

Don't see it if you're going just for the special effect. The staging is wonderful, but you'll be disappointed if this is the reason for your visit.

Clever, Delightful, Entertaining, Refreshing, Relevant

See it if You’re ready to have a good time. Kinky Boots is a crowd-pleaser with heart, a catchy score, and a real message for our time.

Don't see it if You’re dead inside. The inane lyrics might aggravate you. You hate drag queens.

Entertaining, Great staging, Visually stunning, Proficiently sung, Clever

See it if You are a big fan of Frozen and are content to see it brought to life - fairly true to the film.

Don't see it if You are expecting it to have been brilliantly adapted to the stage in a way that gives it a whole new life. Also, don’t see the understudy.

During previews
Enchanting, Exquisite, Great staging, Great acting, Delightful

See it if You love theater. You’re in the mood for something classic, lavishly done.

Don't see it if You prefer a more contemporary score or hate musicals.

Campy, Quirky, Funny, Clever

See it if You have teenagers with you. It's too "camp" and predictable for me to have fallen for it, but the score is well-written for a great cast.

Don't see it if This is for the tween/teen set. Don't expect the next Dear Evan Hanson. The message, while still universal, is delivered less-effectively.

Absorbing, Clever, Entertaining, Great acting, Intelligent

See it if you want to remain engaged in our national conversation. The play is smart - and we can all benefit from its perspective.

Don't see it if you don't want to be asked to think while you're at the theater.

Absorbing, Clever, Exquisite, Entertaining, Great staging

See it if An eye-popping and updated adaptation of the film, the artistic team has pursued excellence in every Tony category - this show is fantastic.

Don't see it if You are not familiar with pop-music and pop-culture. A certain amount of one's enjoyment may be dependent on knowing the popular canon.

Disappointing, Overrated, Aesthetically pleasing

See it if you've got kids with you who know and love the story and will find little else to be accessible. Highlights: set and costumes.

Don't see it if you're hoping that the story will be as enchanting as it was in the animated feature. It falls a little flat. The "climax" is hardly one.

Absorbing, Great acting, Great writing, Intelligent

See it if you want to put your head and your heart to work at the same time. The show is still very relevant, and these performances are amazing.

Don't see it if you can't sit for 7 hours or if you'll be distracted by the few over-wrought scenes that should really have been cut.

Clever, Enchanting, Great singing, Great staging, Resonant

See it if You’re ready for something different. This show is unique and has a rich score, it’s really one to appreciate reflectively.

Don't see it if You’ve never seen a Broadway show. You need a happy ending neatly wrapped in a bow. You’re not ready to be challenged.

Absorbing, Great writing, Masterful, Must see, Relevant

See it if You’re ready for something different. Without a fantastical set or a movie/brand to fall back on, Come From Away will touch you. It’s great

Don't see it if Really... everyone should see it.

Absorbing, Great singing, Intelligent, Must see, Relevant

See it if You’re ready for a contemporary score that really tells a story. This isn’t a “big” musical, physically, but it IS a big musical.

Don't see it if You prefer something more classic in style and less topical. Truly, though, anyone with a heart or even the slightest bit of empathy...
