Fluffy, Dated, Great singing, Strong choreography

See it if you love long, well-crafted dance numbers. This is a dance-heavy show and, on that front, it did not disappoint.

Don't see it if you're looking for a show that works. This one doesn't hold up particularly well. There's virtually no plot and what is there is dated.

Talented cast, Great singing, Relic

See it if you know the show's history but have never had a chance to see it staged (that's why I saw it)

Don't see it if you're looking for a show with a strong book/score, this piece predates all of that

Hilarious, Relevant, Delightful, Great score

See it if you're looking for something fresh and fun. This show is a delightful roller coaster of laughs and catchy songs performed by a strong cast

Don't see it if you prefer serious pieces. This is a fun show.

Also I want to respond to those who've said this show is cliched. Granted, ... Read more Read less

Slow, Monotonous score, Great singing, Disappointing

See it if you are a fan of the members of the cast. Each actor tries their hardest to breathe life into this lousy show

Don't see it if you're looking for something decent. The story is barely there (and oh does it drag) and the score is dull. Each song sounds the same

82
Absorbing, Funny, Intense, Must see

See it if you are looking for a completely unique, totally engrossing theatre experience. I've never seen a show quite like this one.

Don't see it if you don't care for realism or have trouble understanding Irish accents.

50
Cliched, Insipid, Disjointed

See it if you're enamored with pas de deux ballet. The dancers moved well together.

Don't see it if you're looking for a good show. The musical aspect and the dance interludes clashed, the plot was awful, and the music was forgettable.

70
Funny, Quirky, Predictable

See it if you're looking for a light musical comedy put on by a strong cast.

Don't see it if you're looking for something deep or profound. This is a silly farce.

40
Disappointing, High energy

See it if you're passionate about experimental theater or love that pop/punk era of music.

Don't see it if You're looking for something to hold your attention. Once you get past the authentic-feeling club setting, there isn't much to this show

75
Funny, Great singing, Mixed bag

See it if you're looking for something upbeat and fun or longing to see a production where the sidekicks steal the show (like Waitress)

Don't see it if you're looking for something serious or you're looking for a show with a strong score

A few great numbers, Lovely solo dance, Dated, Disappointing

See it if you love members of the cast or some of the classic songs in this show.

Don't see it if you are looking for a masterful revival or a older show that still works for a modern audience. Carousel fails on both fronts.

87
Delightful, Funny, Entertaining

See it if You love a classic show and want to see it performed by a first-rate cast. I enjoyed every minute!

Don't see it if You're looking for something contemporary; this show is dated (but it still works which is more than I can say for Carousel)

Absorbing, Exquisite, Great writing, Intense, Must see

See it if you want to see one of the greatest plays in the American canon done well. Andrew Garfield deserves a tony for his breathtaking performance!

Don't see it if you are uncomfortable with strong language and/or mature themes.

75
Absorbing, Resonant, Slow, Thought-provoking

See it if you want to be moved by a thoughtful piece of theater.

Don't see it if you prefer lavish productions. This was definitely minimalist.

Small cast, One act, Slow, Creative process

See it if you're interested in the following themes: the writing process, professional jealousy, mental health, and self-fulfilling prophecies.

Don't see it if you want a polished exploration of the themes listed above. This show is rough, and despite being only one act, it feels long.

85
Hilarious, Intelligent, Must see, Poignant

See it if you love Harry Potter. This is the perfect show for fans of a certain British hero who once attended a certain magical school

Don't see it if Harry Potter isn't your cup of tea. I expect the uninitiated would be rather confused by this show

During previews
Disappointing, Beautiful theater, Talented violinist

See it if you're a fan of any member of the cast or are fascinated by works centering around small, seemingly insignificant conversations

Don't see it if you're looking for something stimulating. Honestly, I was far more curious about all of the interesting events this play glosses over

65
Flashy, Overrated, Great staging, Strong cast, Idiotic

See it if you are 7 years old or are the parent of a 7 year old. Young children will love this! It's truly a spectacle, but that's all it is.

Don't see it if You're an adult looking for something more than bright lights and bubbles. This is a show geared towards a very young audience.

80
During previews
Profound, Contemporary, Relevant, Strong cast

See it if you're interested in contemporary stories or in the lives of adolescents. This play is profound in its simplicity and very moving

Don't see it if you're uncomfortable with frank discussions about menstruation or foul language. Or if you prefer traditional plays.

80
Classic, Rich score, Absorbing

See it if you grew up with the music or want to enjoy a night out (with a few hundred tourists from around the world)

Don't see it if you're looking for something modern or edgy. This show is very much a classic

10
Disappointing, Insipid, Just plain bad

See it if I'm honestly struggling to think of a reason to see this. Maybe if you have a friend in the cast and a very convincing poker face.

Don't see it if you enjoy theater. This show is just plain bad. Honestly, the only positive thing I can say is that the actors were off book.

75
Great staging, Strong cast, Entertaining, Improvements made

See it if you're a fan of the film. The show has a strong cast and manages to capture much of what makes the movie special.

Don't see it if you're looking for a show with a strong score. The songs from the film are as good as ever, but the new songs are all dull/forgettable

90
Entertaining, Must see, Thought-provoking, Powerful

See it if you love engaging, powerful stories, strong performances, or even if you just love swing. There's really something for everyone.

Don't see it if you have young children in tow as the show contains honest discussions about the traumas of war

80
Absorbing, Great acting, Intense, Must see

See it if you want to see story-telling at its finest. I was moved the the story itself, of course, but equally impressed by its inventive staging.

Don't see it if you enjoy light comedies

85
Hilarious, Faithful adaptation, Delightful, Catchy score

See it if you're a fan of the book. Unlike the film, this does not disappoint! The creators have managed to produce a delightfully faithful adaptation

Don't see it if you're looking for something serious. This is a fun, family show. So, grouchy people (like the man who sat next to me last night), stay home

80
Funny, Resonant, Poignant, Thought-provoking

See it if you enjoy contemporary comedies. This production has a strong cast, but the lead definitely the star. What a performance!

Don't see it if you prefer more pretentious fare or are bothered by foul language.

78
Doesn't quite land, Uneven, Gorgeous orchestrations, Strong cast, Ambitious

See it if you want to see an original take on a classic piece. The orchestrations are absolutely gorgeous and the cast is solid.

Don't see it if you love Oklahoma. This isn't the best revival of the original piece (liberties are taken) and some of the experimental elements don't work.

Also What was up with the dream ballet? It was unnerving. Which, I suppose,... Read more Read less

Great acting, Great singing, Funny, Must see, Poignant

See it if you're looking for a powerful piece of theater. This one makes you laugh, cry, and think (the trifecta!) and the music is fantastic.

Don't see it if you're uncomfortable with nudity.

70
During previews
Absorbing, Great staging, Quirky, Confusing

See it if you want to see a new Duncan Sheik musical in the early stages of development. The score has potential; the book does not.

Don't see it if you're looking for a show that has a strong book. I was able to follow the story, but it seemed inconsequential. (with mismatched accents)

85
During previews
Hilarious, Entertaining, Delightful

See it if you love to laugh. This was essentially a new hour of standup written around a particular theme. I loved it!

Don't see it if you're looking for something serious or you don't care for standup comedy.

75
Profound, Thought-provoking, A bit uneven

See it if you're looking for a powerful piece of drama full of raw emotion

Don't see it if you're looking for a perfectly polished show. This one drags at the beginning, but then picks up steam towards the end

70
During previews
Strong cast, Weak book, Funny moments, Uneven, Disappointing

See it if you love seeing new musicals or are looking for a night of easy laughs.

Don't see it if you are looking for something nuanced, clever, or just plain well thought out. This show was such a disappointment. It's also an uneven mess

60
During previews
Talented cast, Dull, Short, but felt long, Funny moments

See it if you loved the original production. I didn't see it, but the cast of this revival is very talented.

Don't see it if you love stories with strong plots or musicals with strong scores. The songs are forgettable and not much happens on stage.

70
Great staging, Great effects, Mismatched score

See it if you have young children who love Frozen or are a fan of members of the cast. Both Caissie and Patti get chances to shine.

Don't see it if you're looking for something serious with a strong score. The songs from the film translate well, but the added songs are nothing special

70
Funny, Entertaining, Cliched, Weak score

See it if you want to sit back for two hours and laugh a lot. This isn't a deep show nor is it a surprising show, but it will entertain you.

Don't see it if you're looking for something serious or something with a strong score. Honestly, if it had had better music this show could have had legs

83
Entertaining, Gorgeous sets, Work in progress, Fantastic orchestration, Uneven acts

See it if you are looking for a lavish Broadway show. The leads are strong (Aaron and Karen in particular) and the musical numbers are a blast!

Don't see it if you want to see a finished product. This show is a work in progress. The book still feels uneven and the choreography is a bit amateurish.

80
During previews
Powerful, Absorbing, Funny

See it if you're interested in the events surrounding the Blitz and/or well crafted, one act plays

Don't see it if you're looking for something purely light-hearted as this does deal with the harsh realities of war

78
Hilarious, Quirky, Entertaining

See it if you enjoy parodies or comedies full of pop culture references. Also, be sure to see this if you're a StarKid or Tin Can Brothers fan!

Don't see it if you're looking for a serious piece. This is just good, light-hearted fun from start to finish.

70
Ambitious, Strong cast, Powerful scenes, Unfocused

See it if you want to see a compelling show, performed by a strong cast, in the early stages of development

Don't see it if you're looking for something polished. This show really struggles with pacing and focus.

65
Gorgeous staging, Talented cast, Weak book, Weak score

See it if you're looking for an immersive experience. They truly have transformed the Circle in the Square Theater to look and feel like an island

Don't see it if you're looking for a great show. This show is a spectacle, it's an experience, but, at the end of the day, its book and score are sub par

72
During previews
Absorbing, Funny, Uneven pacing, Ground-breaking

See it if you're looking for a contemporary show that will make you laugh but also give you pause. This talented cast has an important story to tell

Don't see it if you're looking for a polished show. This show has a lot of potential, but the pacing is uneven and some of the themes are underdeveloped

55
Disappointing, Overrated, Boring

See it if you're a fan of any members of the cast. The afternoon I saw it, I believe there were several Monk fans in attendance

Don't see it if you're looking for a show with an engaging book and/or a compelling score. Honestly, this show was just plain boring from start to finish

48
During previews
Great staging, Interesting concept, Poor execution

See it if you're interested in a folk rock concert with a unifying theme (or sorts)

Don't see it if you're looking for a show with a cohesive story or memorable musical numbers. Confession, I drifted off for a bit about 50 minutes in

65
Interesting, Thought-provoking, Rough, Has potential

See it if you're interested in trial reenactments in general or this case in particular, or if you enjoy seeing shows still in the development phase

Don't see it if you're looking for a polished show or if you are left-leaning. The show highlights a variety of perspectives but has a clear final message

90
During previews
Hilarious, Intelligent, Riveting, Poignant, Powerful

See it if you want to see a brilliant play put on be a truly talented cast. Or if you simply want to be moved by a powerful piece of theatre.

Don't see it if you are uncomfortable with gay themes or don't like to laugh and/or cry

80
Absorbing, Great acting, Intense

See it if you enjoy plays about topical issues that are well staged and well acted (particularly by the female lead).

Don't see it if you are at all bothered by heavy-handed moments; this play does have a few. Or if you find nudity upsetting.

75
Absorbing, Great singing, Intense, Odd lyric changes

See it if you love the music or want to be moved by a powerfully, dramatic piece of theater featuring several strong performances

Don't see it if you're sensitive to violence or sexual scenes. Also, and this is a small thing, they changed many of the lyrics which I found distracting

80
Entertaining, Must see, Strong supporting cast

See it if you love Bette Midler. It was a treat to see her live! But also if you love this show. This revival is first-rate from top to bottom!

Don't see it if you prefer more contemporary works. This is an un-ashamedly old-fashioned show. Rather than try to modernize, this revival embraces the past

61
Entertaining, Predictable, Okay

See it if you enjoy contemporary, one act plays

Don't see it if you're looking for something distinctive or riveting. The show is fine but nothing special

55
Clever, Boring, One act, One man show

See it if you are a fan of CS Lewis or one man shows

Don't see it if you need a complex plot (or a plot at all)

60
During previews
Strong lead, Some humor, Banal score, Hideous set design, Impressive visual gags

See it if you're the sort of person, like myself, determined to see every new musical this season or if you are a fan of Andy Karl as he is excellent

Don't see it if you're looking for a strong show. This one is a mess. Though, an intriguing mess. I spent the night trying to puzzle out each bad decision
