If I Forget
Midtown W
Absorbing, Resonant, Thought-provoking, Great acting, Intelligent

See it if you enjoy family drama in the same vein as The Humans and August: Osage County. Well executed high drama. Could use an editing.

Don't see it if you can't sit for a long stretch. Clocked in at almost 3:00 the night I saw it.

West Village
Ambitious, Intense, Mean-spirited, Disappointing, Cliched

See it if you enjoy suffering. One low after another. No break in emotional continuity. Just down, down, down.

Don't see it if you need to do laundry. That would be time better spent.

Absorbing, Great acting, Hilarious, Great writing, Intense

See it if you want to see some of the best acting of the season. Fully realized characters. Sparkling script. Wonderful.

Don't see it if you're uncomfortable with dark comedy or if your mother tormented you when you were young.

The Humans
Midtown W
Absorbing, Great acting, Profound, Riveting, Great writing

See it if What a cast! Give me a break. Sarah Steele masterful, as always. Deserves all the awards. Stephen Karam is can write like nobody's business.

Don't see it if It's heavy drama. If you want a night of cotton candy (nothing wrong with that) you're better off at 'Holiday Inn.'

Entertaining, Funny, Ambitious, Delightful, Great staging

See it if Nice to see some new material instead of yet another revival. Snappy, clever lyrics. Something for the kids that's NOT Disney.

Don't see it if Stylistically, it's a big, traditional Broadway musical/dance extravaganza. If that's not your thing, steer clear.

Clever, Ambitious, Great staging, Enchanting, Family

See it if Big Disney exposition. A visual feast. Still works after all these years.

Don't see it if Forgettable score. Couldn't remember one song :30 minutes afterwards.

See it if It's as good as everyone says it is. A compelling, listenable score. A wee bit draggy in the second act. Easily forgiven.

Don't see it if The cost is preposterous. Don't see it if you don't want to feed the beast. They'll only be encouraged.

See it if See if you love rhythm and blues.

Don't see it if I was put off by their pretending to play the instruments. It was as bad as lip-synching. The historical facts didn't roll in until the end.

Clever, Ambitious, Disappointing, Overrated, Slow

See it if See it if you want a night of non-traditional theater. It's an unusual staging and a clever conceit.

Don't see it if It's in extraordinarily slow-moving play. I don't agree with all the accolades it's gotten. It's too long by about 30 minutes.

See it if An absorbing, heart-breaking evening. Innovative staging that WORKS. David Oyelowo in one of the best performances I've seen in ages.

Don't see it if 3:10 minutes long with one intermission. That's too much for a lot of folks, even if it's great theater. Bench seating doesn't help.

See it if ...you want to take the kids to something that's not the same old fare. A little dark and foreboding, which is okay with me.

Don't see it if Lots of kids on stage. Better be at peace with that or you're not gong to like it.
