If you like this person's taste, follow him or her!
See it if You want to hear a modernized, pointed take on a classic. The new orchestrations are excellent & the concept is thought-provoking & powerful
Don't see it if You're expecting your lush, cheesy grandmother's Oklahoma or don't like the sound of guitars + darker themes.
See it if You like well-written jokes and quirky Yazbek songs (a la The Band's visit)
Don't see it if You're looking for something with a resonant message -- the moral and delivery is pretty trite.
See it if You like Jersey Boys and jukebox shows where the musician goes, "and then that's why I wrote THIS song" and then plays the song.
Don't see it if You're looking for something fresh or powerful. This is just a nice night out with a date.
See it if You're a fan of Green Book and other white savior narrative stories where a white person wins a fight against racism.
Don't see it if You're looking for a play that has something new to say about race, perhaps from a non-white author.
See it if You love cheesy, campy, 80's-style rock opera stuff. If you enjoyed Rock of Ages, Rocky Horror or like to hear rock voices RIP classic tunes
Don't see it if You want to be absorbed in plot or use your mind really at all. This is just a goofy rock and roll circus. Come to giggle and sing.
See it if You like your thinking about American institutions challenged and/or well-written funny-smart one-person shows.
Don't see it if You have no interesting in government/politics/history (but you should!)
See it if You enjoy Sondheim shows! The lyrical deftness and wordplay is, as usual, on point. And the score, while not his best, is beautiful.
Don't see it if You're looking for simple, catchy musical theater. Sondheim shows are thinkers and brain-ticklers.
See it if You like brash comedy that really tries to push buttons and take unpopular stances.
Don't see it if You have sensitivities around liberal hot-button topics like abortion, race, gender, pedophilia, etc.
