Edgy, Must see, Relevant, Riveting, Romantic

See it if you care about diverse representation onstage and seeing queer love stories, and if you enjoy excellent acting by ensemble casts

Don't see it if you're not interested in Shakespeare or seeing the classics redone to be more relevant to today's world

Absorbing, Quirky, Edgy, Enchanting, Immersive

See it if you like interesting and unique experiences, 70s culture, interactive experiences with actors, things that are a little unnerving but fun

Don't see it if you don't like immersive theater, you don't want to be separated from who you came with or to be alone in a room with an actor

Small Mouth Sounds
Midtown W
Clever, Cliched, Quirky, Refreshing, Thought-provoking

See it if you're interested in a new and unique approach to theatre in a very immersive, intimate space, and good character studies

Don't see it if you like all your questions to be answered at the end of a show, you want to be profoundly moved, you're offended by nudity ;)

Something Rotten!
Midtown W
Hilarious, Entertaining

See it if you enjoy some good Shakespeare/musical theatre jokes, even if it's not very memorable

Don't see it if you don't like having fun? or you care a lot about historical accuracy

Entertaining, Funny, Quirky

See it if you love talented kids and you loved the original movie. Also Alex Brightman is fantastic and so high-energy.

Don't see it if you're not a fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber and his incredibly repetitive score for this show.

Hamilton (NYC)
Midtown W
Ambitious, Edgy, Masterful, Must see, Original

See it if does this even need an explanation anymore? the most important work in recent years. absolutely fantastic.

Don't see it if ....why would you not want to see Hamilton? I guess if you're a stickler for historical accuracy, maybe skip but why would you skip this

Dinner With Georgette
East Village
Ambitious, Edgy, Thought-provoking

See it if you love fantastical strange and beautiful queer stories that break genres, forms, and conventions

Don't see it if you don't like anything non-traditional, non-linear, and somewhat intentionally confusing

Midtown W
Intelligent, Refreshing, Resonant, Original, Riveting

See it if you like creativity, raw inspired energy, talented teenagers, inventive catchy songs

Don't see it if you need a traditional musical with a typical plot and polished staging

Quirky, Funny, Entertaining, Underwhelming

See it if you like to just have a fun time and not really think too much about the entertainment, overall a really just fun show

Don't see it if you don't like trans people/drag queens

Avenue Q (NYC)
Midtown W
Great acting, Great writing, Funny, Entertaining, Hilarious

See it if you love to have a fun time

Don't see it if you're offended by vulgarity/a certain amount of political incorrectness/puppet sex

Ambitious, Tech-heavy, Dizzying, Resonant

See it if you like interesting theatre that relies fairly heavily on technological effects and clever staging (as stunning as they may be)

Don't see it if you're a stickler for the original book (it changes several things) or if you're uncomfortable with the way they portray autism

Dizzying, Absorbing, Masterful, Intelligent, Must see

See it if If you love fantastic theatre, if you love intelligent work, if you're queer, if you're not, if you have a family...EVERYONE should see.

Don't see it if you're a homophobe :)
