The Audience
Midtown W
Great acting, Entertaining, Relevant, Cliched, Indulgent

See it if you loved (the film) The Queen, are a fan of Mirren (who isn't?), enjoy historical dramas, are fascinated with the monarchy

Don't see it if Elizabeth II does not particularly interest you, you are looking for something very insightful, you want more contemporary commentary

Great acting, Great writing, Intelligent, Relevant, Resonant

See it if you enjoy complex monologue-filled writing, characters who are neither purely good nor bad, period pieces that deal with class/racial issues

Don't see it if you are looking for something light, dislike works about socioeconomic issues, dislike dense/verbose scripts

Ambitious, Clever, Great acting, Great staging, Intense

See it if you like seeing a master (Langella) at the top of his game, you are interested in plays that examine our mortality and fragility

Don't see it if you are too strongly effected by explorations of Alzheimer's/dementia, do not like your night in the theater to be emotionally difficult

Clever, Funny, Great acting, Great staging, Intelligent

See it if you enjoy family dramas that contain a lot of humor while also addressing contemporary social issues

Don't see it if you prefer shows that are purely escapist entertainment or enjoy your comedies/dramas more PG-rated

Chicago (NYC)
Midtown W
Entertaining, Great staging, Fluffy, Indulgent

See it if you know and like the music/the movie, you've never been to a Broadway show and want to see one of the (better) musical stalwarts

Don't see it if you want your musical with dramatic heft or a lot of comedy, you want something off the beaten path, the current cast doesn't intrigue you

The Humans
Midtown W
Absorbing, Intelligent, Thought-provoking, Resonant, Relevant

See it if you like talky family dramadies that deal with generational and economic discord

Don't see it if you want a show that is laugh-a-minute or do not like when a show occasionally goes to some rather dark places
