See it if Acting tour de force is appreciated, from all three. Fall in love with these people that deepen from charicatures to complex humans.
Don't see it if A shift in tone from comedic to tragic will break you. If you can't process actors (wonderfully) playing more than one character.
See it if Depth of feeling is wanted in a musical. Incredible performances from Clark, Cooley, and Milligan (rest of the cast too tbh). Lovely songs.
Don't see it if Shows that touch on mortality are not to your liking.
See it if You want to see a classic of musical theater sung and acted well. Skybell is a stand-out in a show that's a bit old-fashioned, but holds up.
Don't see it if Long shows and the need to flick eyes over to the supertitles would wear on you
See it if an intimate chamber musical of storytelling directed toward the audience appeals to you. Luba Mason gives an outstanding performance.
Don't see it if thuddening simple lyrics irritate. This is the biggest fault, just frustratingly bland lyrics with no wit or skillful rhyming.
See it if you, like the guests of Morkan, come to hear from a sage, but instead re-discover living in the moment, community, celebration, lonelieness.
Don't see it if you want action and plot, where Epiphany delivers thought, feeling, mood, in a meditation on disconnection from each other.
See it if Emotionally absorbing relationship between two of the most realistic characters to exist on stage in a while. A triumph of writing & acting.
Don't see it if A lack of physical movement will cause your attention to drift
See it if you love poetic language and hearing it spill out of pitch-perfect actors in gleeful torrents, gorgeous eddies, and enveloping clouds.
Don't see it if modern clothing, actors facing out to the audience while conversing, or a bare stage are frustrating to you.
See it if you're looking for an entertaining show with good performances, and haven't seen other plays where an actor ages on stage over decades.
Don't see it if You prefer naturalistic dialogue, more depth, and if you already saw the superior Morning Sun which covers the same themes and structure.
See it if You'll enjoy the main premise - see below - but also his funny tangents of growing up Jewish. The year they celebrated Christmas is gold.
Don't see it if For some awful reason, you wouldn't enjoy unpacking a visit to a white supremacist meeting by an intelligent and antsy comedian
See it if You want to see Barry Manilow songs instead of the groups actual performance repetoire. You are a big fan of Chip Zien.
Don't see it if You're looking for an accurate representation of the Comedian Harmonists - hint, watch the movie made in 1997.
See it if you'll enjoy an actual mythic tale made real, high emotional stakes, inventive staging, and jazz/folk music.
Don't see it if you want a musical with high variability in the song styles, or a light romantic comedy.
See it if you'd enjoy fascinating, deliciously unflattering portrayals of aspiring criminals. Great performances of Mamet's trademark dialogue.
Don't see it if won't engage with stylized dialogue, repetition, and slow-burn tension.
