“The musical version of the show is at least as funny if not even funnier than the original. Songs...sound amusing when you just hear the titles, and they are so much more so when you actually hear them. Even songs that sound like they would be perfectly typical musical theater songs...are given a crazy spin in this show. Even the premise of this show...sounds full of comic potential, and plays even funnier than it sounds. You may not enter the theater laughing, but you will most likely leave... Full Review

Carmelina

Says Me Says Mom

"'Carmelina's' strength is in its plot...While the music is nice, there aren't any standout songs and the songs are definitely not up to the standards of Lerner's other work or even the standards of his other work with the composer of the show, Burton Lane...This is not to say that the show is not worth seeing, however because it is really a very engaging and amusing show." The Hello Girls

Says Me Says Mom

“A very interesting and enlightening musical. It shines...on a group of historical women that most people know little or nothing about...Their story is fascinating and charmingly told...The cast members are all very talented and the songs are beautiful and fun...The story is very uplifting and inspiring...A good show for girls to see to show them that even back then women could make a difference...A good show for anyone to see so they can learn the story of these brave women.” Full Review

Says Me Says Mom

"Although the subject matter about a group of guys basically trying to recapture their youth might not be the most original, the show puts its own fresh spin on that theme. The show is hilarious and will keep you laughing throughout. The music is mostly upbeat and fun, and songs like the catchy title number may even stick in your head long after you've left the theater...Anyone who grew up in the 80s...will find the show full of nostalgia even in the most surprising of ways." Lonesome Blues

Says Me Says Mom

“If you love the blues and Blind Lemon Jefferson in particular, you will really enjoy this show. Quite a lot of Blind Lemon Jefferson's music is sampled in this show...The show was put together with what the authors could find out about the artist's life, and the record was sketchy and may not be completely accurate...Tour de force performance...It can feel rather long and tedious at times especially for anyone who is not really a fan of the blues.” Full Review

Says Me Says Mom

"The show has quite a few main characters which may make it hard for some to keep track of the story although the plot is engaging. The songs are nice, but none of them really stand out. City Center Encore's production of the show was very appealing. The acting was good. Brandon Uranowitz...was one of the standout performers in this production...The singing voices were all beautiful. The dancing...was exceptional. All in all, it was a top-notch production." Full Review

Says Me Says Mom

"The show is more of a fun romp than a true treatise on homelessness...The ending is a little too unrealistic as if the problem of homelessness can be so easily solved...If you just take the show for the its entertainment value, the characters are likable, the songs are fun, and the love story at its center is engaging. However, these days shows that deal with serious subjects tend to do so in much more serious way. Maybe that's why these show has been forgotten for so many years." Full Review

"While Llewlyn-Williams who stars in this one man show is full of charm and appeal, that is not enough to sustain an 86 minute show. The character he plays is sweet and likable. However, the story is a bit hard to follow at times and a big draggy at others...The show might have benefited from a little more magic both literal and figurative. It is worth seeing this show to see the delightful Llewyn-Williams. However, hopefully he will come back in a show that is more worthy of his talent soon." Full Review

Says Me Says Mom

"If you like the 'Friends' TV show, you will probably enjoy 'Friends the Musical'...Although it is hard to cram a ten year TV series into a 2 hour musical, the writers of this show do an admirable job of it...The set, costumes, and even the hairdos are all really spot on too. The acting is good. Some of the actors do a better job of portraying their characters than others. The actor who plays Ross in particular does a really great job." Full Review

Says Me Says Mom

“'Sweetee' is a delight. It is a very entertaining show with an interesting plot and fascinating characters…It is definitely worth seeing. The acting in the show is extremely good…There is not one role that has not been perfectly cast. The songs in the show are quite engaging as well…This is a show that definitely stirs your emotions…If you like theater that really touches you emotionally, you will love this show.” Full Review

Marry Harry

Says Me Says Mom

"A sweet romantic musical comedy...The show is well-acted and well-sung by the seven-member cast. The songs are fun. Many of them are about such relatable topics as carrying on the family name, almost getting married, and turning thirty. The show is greatly entertaining and very funny. The trio of actors who portray a kind of Greek chorus commenting on the action, usually through song, only serves to add to the hilarity." Full Review

Aging Magician

"This very unusual show is like a storybook and an opera in one...Eckert is backed up by the Brooklyn Youth Chorus. The beautiful voices of these young singers is the main reason to see this show, although the songs were not especially memorable and at times it was hard to understand what they were singing...The show overall moves along slowly and accordingly, I would not recommend it for young children who would probably be bored." Dear World

"'Dear World' is a perfect show for the current state of the world...This new scaled-down production works very well and makes for an entertaining and relevant story. This version stars Tony Award-winning actress Tyne Daly. She is not much of a singer, the score is not really memorable anyway, but her acting definitely shows there is a reason she has won all of those awards...See the work of these fine actresses and the rest of the talented cast in the intimate setting of the York Theatre." for a previous production "'The History Mystery,' the latest offering by TADA! Youth Theater's young acting troupe, is definitely one of their best...This timely show teaches kids that history matters, and that every person can make a difference. It does so in TADA!'s usual song-filled entertaining way, making it a great show for all ages. The show is not very long either at just under an hour making it perfect for young children's short attention spans." Full Review

Says Me Says Mom

"An interesting musical...The actors who played the dogs in this show did an admirable job of it. There was a childlike quality to their performances that seemed fitting for dogs. The story was moving in a patriotic way. The songs were very patriotic as well...Older children would enjoy it...Anyone who loves history and/or wants to learn about an interesting chapter in history would probably like it as well." "The show works best in the small intimate moments. Seeing these moments brought to life on stage draws the audience in much more than is possible in a movie. However, some of the larger moments which are only mentioned in the show but actually occur in the movie don't always come across as well in the show...All in all although the show is perfect for mother/daughter bonding, it can be enjoyed by anyone whether they've seen the film or not." for a previous production “Definitely not just for children. It may possibly be the funniest version of ‘Cinderella’ ever presented on stage...If you like your heroines with a little more spunk, and you want to see a Cinderella who is not just meekly sitting around wishing for her prince to come, but is active, feisty and has a mind of her own, then you will love this show…A really fun show, and a greatly entertaining way to spend an hour or two.” Full Review

Cagney

"I liked all the tap dancing...I thought it would be mostly about the kind of characters he played especially because he was shown holding a gun in the poster for the show. It wasn't like that at all. It was more about his whole life. It had a lot of funny parts. It had a lot of good songs too...The acting was good too. They all played a lot of different parts...I really enjoyed the show, and I would highly recommend it." Full Review

Odd Day Rain

"The songs are very enjoyable, however, although not particularly memorable. As in all TADA Youth Theater shows, and indeed most children's show in general, there is a lesson to be learned in this show. Still, it is nice to see that lesson learned in a less cliched manner than usual. Although this may not be your typical kid's show, it is still lives up to TADA's usual standards of providing great entertainment and the opportunity to see a group of talented kids showing their stuff." Christmas in Hell

“Not your average holiday show...The show is pretty funny and surprisingly touching at times...The songs are unique and eccentric...Although some parts of the show don't seem to make sense or lack consistency, over all, it is a crazy and fun ride It is the anti-Christmas show and yet, it is also the perfect show for the season because ultimately it is about love and family and the bond between a father and son.” Full Review

Ordinary Days

Says Me Says Mom

“A slice of life musical. It is not big and bombastic. It is about quiet everyday moments...The structure of the show is interesting. The two couples’ lives intersect at various times throughout the show, but they rarely interact with each other. It's as if you are watching two different shows simultaneously. The songs are nice, the acting is good and the story is interesting. It is all very engaging and seems to go by a lot quicker than the alleged 90 minute or so running time.” Full Review

God Save Queen Pam

"I was expecting this show to be more of a farce. However, I am happy to say that is not. While it is a funny show, it is not over the top...It is not a one woman show, however, and one or two of the other characters do seem a bit underdeveloped. However, all in all, it is a good entertaining show that seems very timely in light of the fact that in actuality an American actress recently married the Prince of England." Full Review

“Not a typical family musical...The plot is engaging and definitely not predictable. The acting is good. The way the cast relates to each other...makes you really feel like these people are a family...Full of lovely heartfelt songs...The cast's voices blend beautifully together...When all four women sing together the songs are especially delightful...Not a show for young children...And anyone who is extremely conservative...A nice show with terrific songs.” Full Review

Rocktopia

Says Me Says Mom

"If you enjoy both rock and classical music and you want to see them combined in a unique way, you may enjoy this show. If you are looking for a show with a story or any sort of plot, this is not it. This is basically a glorified concert. The voices are good and the songs should be recognizable...This is not a show for young children who probably could not sit through it. Older children who are particularly interested in rock and classical music might enjoy it." Full Review

"If you want to learn about the history of women in this country in a fun and interesting way, go and see this musical...There is a little bit of plot involving a woman whose own changing personal history seems to reflect what is going on in the country at the time. However, the plot is slight and not nearly as interesting as the music...The show is still worth seeing, however, because the music and singing are both great and ultimately the music is what is at the heart of this show." “Bishop is charming magician who has a great rapport with his audiences...He has a few new tricks up his sleeve that you probably have never have seen before...This show is a bit longer than the New Victory Theater's typical show. However, the show is so entertaining that it will go by in a flash and you'll actually wish it was longer. Anyone who is old enough to understand the concept of magic will enjoy this truly entertaining show.” Full Review

“You wouldn't think a show about math would be that entertaining, but it really is. In fact, this a great show on so many levels. It has a good and entertaining story. "Rebel Playhouse doesn't just want to entertain your children. They want to educate and empower them as well...The show is more than just a show where you sit back and watch the action unfold around you...During the pre-show, actors who play animals in the show wander around interacting with the audience. Their acting is terrific, and their movements and manner are completely true to the animals they are portraying...The show is a musical, and the songs are actually pretty good." Full Review

“Although it is not one of Berlin's best shows, it does have a lot of nice songs…The characters are interesting and well played by the talented Musicals! cast. The politically based story is very timely…I just would have preferred if the ending of the show were different, although that is not the fault of the performers but of the author of the show. Overall, the show is enjoyable though. It is another well-done revival by Musicals Tonight!.” Full Review

Shear Madness

"Although 'Shear Madness' is a murder mystery, it is more of a comedy. The show is not at all scary as the murder is only talked about and does not even take place on stage. "If you like love stories, you will love this show which has not one but four love stories as part of its plot. The songs in the show are not as well known as the songs in some of Jerry Herman's other shows, but the show does have some nice songs...The show is filled with a nice mix of sweetness and humor. Great comic relief is provided in particular by Alix Korey as Clara Weiss...Even though the show is somewhat dated, it still provides a delightfully entertaining evening." Full Review

"An entertaining light romantic comedy. It is somewhat predictable, but that doesn't make it any less enjoyable. The characters are interesting...The songs were okay and a few of them were quite enjoyable. The show is staged in a very interesting manner and makes great use of minimal sets and props. It is recommended for ages 16 and up due to the subject matter." Full Review

"It is the story of friendship. It is the story of secrets. It is the story of bonds that can never be broken. Any woman that has ever had lifelong friends can relate to it. However, it is not only a show for women, the story is very entertaining and there is a lot of humor in it. The songs are fun although I wouldn't say any of them stuck in my mind after the show...It is just a fabulous fun time from beginning to end." Full Review

One Funny Mother

"'One Funny Mother' is definitely not for kids. It is, however, a great show for a Girls Night out...The show is neither a strict stand-up routine nor a story with a plot. It is a cross between both...Any mother can relate to at least some of what Blizzard talks about. Any father can relate to at least some of what Blizzard talks about too...At a running time of approximately 80 minutes, the show is just long enough without being too long." Full Review
