Ambitious, Funny, Intelligent

See it if you enjoy an ambitious and funny performance mixing rap and science while simultaneously being about the performers. I give it a B grade.

Don't see it if you only like perfectly polished shows. This show involves some glaring rehearsed moments. Definitely keep the "Dylan song" in future shows!

Cliched, Disappointing, Overrated

See it if you enjoy plays involving politics including religion and gun control.

Don't see it if you want to see something original, because this play is full of cliches and does not fully develop its goals. I give it a C- grade.

Absorbing, Funny, Great acting

See it if you want to see theater tackle difficult subjects (mental illness, power of money) in an absorbing way. I give it a B/B+ grade.

Don't see it if you dislike violent depictions and want a completely true historical account.

Clever, Great acting, Original, Meta

See it if you want to see a meta-play that involves interesting themes that require a lot of brain power to unpack. I give it a B grade.

Don't see it if you want a traditional play following a set arc, because this play is essentially two different plays and its direction can be confusing.

56
Overrated, Unremarkable

See it if you want to see characters explore who they are as an individuals.

Don't see it if you want to see something memorable, because this play tried to do too much and nothing stuck out. I give it a C- grade.

Ambitious, Diverse cast, Overrated

See it if you want a diverse young cast made of true New Yorkers who give a glimpse of unrepresented perspectives and perform rap/poetry well.

Don't see it if you are bothered by many scene/staging changes, poor acting, and lack of focus. I give it a C grade.

Excruciating, Waste of time

See it if you want to see an all-female cast playing a family on edge with each other, constantly swearing and fighting.

Don't see it if you want something that is interesting or funny. As best put by another audience member: "Who writes that shit?" I give a C-/D+ grade.

60
Cliched, Predictable

See it if you want to see a play about flawed characters who struggle with bad decision making.

Don't see it if you dislike a cliched, predictable story that should have cut a lot of the fat. I give it a C grade.

Ambitious, Overrated, Short

See it if you want a mostly female cast, a different account of whether the Garden of Eden was paradise and a different explanation for the expulsion.

Don't see it if you want more than one-sided characters and an undeveloped idea. This play failed to meet its potential. I give it a C- grade.

55
Random, Overrated, Long

See it if you want to see a play full of random one-liner jokes that come out of nowhere.

Don't see it if you want to see something better at the Fringe Festival. This play ran rather long and was not that appealing. I give it a C- grade.

60
Confusing, Disappointing, Disjointed

See it if you want to see a play that offers two competing but similar story-lines from the past and present occurring at the same time.

Don't see it if you want to see a coherent play that focuses on its goals (opposed to coming off as trying to be edgy for complexity). I give it a C grade.

Whimsical, Quirky

See it if you want to see a whimsical play that combines a lot of elements while not taking itself too seriously. I give it a B- grade.

Don't see it if you want every part to be enjoyable (some scenes fell flat, some technical difficulties) or if you don't like random dance montages.

Disappointing

See it if you want to see a play of people trying to find themselves by trying to make contact with aliens.

Don't see it if you want something that is interesting, because this play generally falls flat by trying to do too much. I give it a C- grade.

Clever, Entertaining, Great staging, Hilarious, Must see

See it if you want to see a clever musical full of great choreography and exceptional acting (great expressions!) and staging. I give it an A- grade.

Don't see it if you struggle with a slow start and a couple of songs that miss the mark. Also, don't see it if you don't know the fairy tale characters.

80
Absorbing, Great acting

See it if you enjoy great acting and an ambitious play that generally hits most of the marks without being tacky. I give it a B grade.

Don't see it if you are bothered by a play that runs long and deals with topics (homosexuality, Holocaust) that are uncomfortable for some.

68
Ambitious, Disappointing, Overrated

See it if you want to see something that involves the war on terror with a sympathetic Muslim character.

Don't see it if you will be disappointed with the lack of focus, rushed development, and characters' unbelievable tone shifts. I give it a C+ grade.

77
Ambitious, Predictable

See it if you want to see an ambitious attempt to show 3 different story-lines occurring at the same time. I give it a B- grade.

Don't see it if you will be disappointed how the attempt to portray 3 story-lines often does not satisfy the ambitious goal and can be rather predictable.

87
Entertaining, Original, Great choreography

See it if you want a couple great, funny songs in a generally well-developed musical led by its two amazing leading actresses. I give it a B+/B grade.

Don't see it if you want everyone to sing well (only two did), dislike some overplayed banal puns, and want the entire cast to be strong and interesting.

88
Absorbing, Great acting, Ambitious, Intelligent, Profound

See it if you want to see a great play full of interesting themes that will make you think. I give it a B+ grade.

Don't see it if you have issues with a play that will challenge how you think about race, art, and doing whatever it takes to make a name for yourself.
