See it if The best cast and most innovative and layered show on Broadway now. Wonderful set and mood changes. Like Rent, framed an opera for Broadway.

Don't see it if I can't think of a reason. Don't know how I missed entire first run, and went on a whim to the revival. Better than Dolly as a revival.

Also The only thing I did not like a bit was that the building up of the main characters relationship was a bit slow. I didn't love any one song from the show but enjoyed the entire score.... Read more Read less

See it if You can catch original cast. Saw it 7/12. Best play I have seen in years. You like naturalistic plays, enlightenment, a Laurie Metcalf fan.

Don't see it if You don't want to. Can't think of any other reason. Maybe if you don't like one act, fairly short plays on Broadway.

Also I loved, loved this show. All the actors are wonderful. It has so much to say about humans and their need for and annoyance by other humans. Some people say you do not need to know the original play; but I think a read of the Wikipedia article on the original piece and its history help tremendously. See it if You have knowledge of subject matter, and are interested. You enjoy history, talky shows.

Don't see it if You don't know or care about subject. I was lost from the 5th minute. Uninteresting set. Never had a clue what was going on.

See it if You want to see an art installation that makes almost no sense and/or among an untapped audience who want to know more about Shackleton.

Don't see it if You want to know what is going on. You don't like a fiddler with no catchy or coherent tunes. You don't enjoy time travel internet dating.

Also I went to see this because it won Best Off Broadway Musical from some group. The seat, and the show, were terrible (I was glad to see some people gave the show a zero score -- I'd have done that if the performers weren't so talented). See it if You want to see a production of show. Good puppetry and choreography. You enjoy an almost one man show.

Don't see it if You don't know show well. Dialogue is not clear and it's confusing.

See it if I thought Close's performance ranks among the best I've seen. The two male leads are great. A few weak spots but some real emotion.

Don't see it if The story doesn't interest you. You want to miss the best performance of this season (including Midler's).

See it if You like Andy Karl, who is good -- not fantastic. Lead female not ready for Broadway. Rest of cast high school caliber. Forgetable songs.

Don't see it if You pay full price. The woman beside me howled. She was the only one. Why do I always end up next to that person? Some good staging.

See it if You like intimate theater, are a fan of Williams' work, good performances.

Don't see it if You lack patience. The first act is fairly slow. It gets more interesting as it develops.

See it if you have not seen lots of Sweeney Todd productions; this is original. good singing, staging, acting; a nice 3 piece orchestra

Don't see it if You can sing the entire show in your sleep. I think I had best seat in house; on aisle of benches running below balcony facing 95% of show.

Also It's hard to compare fairly, if (as I did) you saw the original with Angela Lansbury and Len Cariou when it was a brand new show. This production obviously has to limit some scenes because of the small space but they did very original work. All of the table seats face each other, and if I'd been seated there I don't think I'd have been happy having to turn my head around the entire time (since the action happens all around you). See it if Very surprised how well acted and good this was. Show has layers; Thought provoking. Intimate theater experience. Theater itself is raw.

Don't see it if Not much negative to say. The nudity and frank explicit sex talk serve a purpose. A few unbelievable things, and takes its time to build.

See it if You enjoy a period piece (I would not say dated). Like the actors; they are all good. Like wordy musical, sung through shows.

Don't see it if Find constant in-Jewish humor annoying. Don't liked small scale musical on Broadway. (I mean this literally) if you have legs. Seats horible

See it if You like South Park. Fast Pacing, really great songs. A little bit of childish humor, like South Park. Intelligent too. Not easily offended.

Don't see it if You're taking kids. I was surprised there were small children there. Are offended by crude humor and remarks.

See it if You like slow paced 2 handers. Don't mind ambiguity. Like dark material with no lightness. For a unique take on the subject matter.

Don't see it if You don't like slow paced shows. Occasional long monologues can't hold your interest. You don't want your patience tested.

See it if You like original shows with good, funny songs. Just saw it for 2nd time 5/21/16. It still holds up but lyrics need better enunciation.

Don't see it if You are a prude or a child. Otherwise it's definitely worth a visit.

See it if You like original, well produced short plays. You are familiar with Edward Gorey. Enjoy non-linear plot and shows using clever staging.

Don't see it if You know nothing about Gorey's work (the show assumes you do); you do not like small character studies with non-linear time frame.

See it if You like real time pacing, have a great ear for Yorkshire accents, like thoughtful work, can appreciate working class drama

Don't see it if You have no ear for UK accents, don't appreciate subtle character dramas, you can't take slow pacing

See it if Saw 9/3/17. LOVED it. Raised my score after 3rd time seeing. Current cast excels, and the political theme of the story is so cleverly done,

Don't see it if You end up in cheap seats. My 2nd time I went cheap & was surrounded by children and people running in and out of theater and it ruined it.

See it if You want to see Forrest Whitaker. You have Nothing else you want to see.

Don't see it if You don't like monologues. You dislike shows that hit you over the head with its theme.

See it if You enjoy high quality musicals. Excellent score and acting. It is much much better than the non-musical film version.

Don't see it if You hate children totally. You really can not understand UK accents.

See it if you don't mind jokes you see coming far in advance. see it for the actors; there are some good ones in it.

See it if You want to pay Broadway prices for a nice, small, intimate show. Enjoy seeing a talented rather unknown cast. Like Do Good message shows.

Don't see it if You expect any spectacle. Don't enjoy nice songs you forget by time you leave theater. Can't spend big bucks on small productions.

See it if You want to see the three lead actresses. Want a not-often-enough dark humor play. Enjoy dysfunctional family shows, no one escapes in this.

Don't see it if You want to learn anything or be able to discuss the show. I was not bored; I just could not come up with any reason why this was produced.

See it if You like unusual subject matter. Well written but often repetitious score. Good off stage orchestra.

Don't see it if You don't like slow pace, quite a few people left at intermission. Don't like somewhat confusing endings.

See it if You want to see an intelligent version of a great play. Minimal staging works. All 4 actors great. Emotional and engaging.

Don't see it if You have preconceived notions from poor reviews and attendance. You don't like bare bone sets.

See it if You like absurd dark comedy or like Orton. You've never seen a production of the show. Can forgive lack of diction.

Don't see it if You've seen good production already. You have trouble following Brit diction poorly enunciated. You're expecting shock value of original.

See it if You must see Bette Midler. It's a beautiful production. The secondary leads are great. You're rich. Enjoy revivals that are almost great.

Don't see it if You pay a fortune for it. Partial view means just that. I missed 10% of the show.

Also I was conflicted on how I felt about the show. I'm a long time Midler fan, from before she was anyone -- but she lost her voice at start of big number that closes Act I. She had to be brought water. (She played it for laughs ... "Live theater", then dropping on the floor dead for a bit.)
Dances well for 71, but she isn't Bathhouse Betty anymore. I really did like it and expect most people will love it. David Hyde Pierce was surprisingly good. Loved Gavin Creel and Kate Baldwin. See it if You want to see very good performances. Enjoy spare, well staged shows. Like serious work that explores passage of time's effect on self.

Don't see it if You don't like sort of dark theme personal exploration stories. You aren't a fan of the Inge style.

See it if Immersive theater piece. Well done. Especially good for older LGBT audience, but well done all around. Good songs. Great acting. History.

Don't see it if You have no interest in LGBT work.

Also This story centers on the inhabitants of a 1973 bar that was engulfed in flames and the sense of community gay bars held at that time. In a time warp-ish fashion someone from the present is transported there and sees how the commaraderie compares to today's app hook up world. Highly recommend it to anyone. See it if Seen 2/7/17 My first Jukebox Musical. Lead is good, and the rest too. Only negative is it's all songs you know. Interesting though.

Don't see it if You pay top dollar; there were plenty of seats. You want to see original music and something cutting edge.

See it if Great chance to see accomplished actors in a small venue. You like the score; I only like the 3 big numbers. The "movie star" actor is good.

Don't see it if Seeing Foster play Charity as someone mentally deficient (which is a reasonable interpretation) bothers you. Helmsley also good (no room b4)

See it if Seen 8/24/16. Very surprised at how let down I was. No great play. Good performances. Confusing end. Not sure who would love this show.

Don't see it if You expect a BEST PLAY, especially if you've seen some of its competition from 2016. Not for children. You pay full price.

See it if You like sweeping choreography that uses a huge stage well. Enjoy the score. Get informed on some Jewish history of oppresion then and now.

Don't see it if You've seen your fill of productions of this show. You enjoy female acting and singing voices -- the men outshine the females by far.

See it if You like loud rock music. Have a child who wants to go. Obvious plot doesn't matter. You like lots of children carrying the story.

Don't see it if You saw the movie (it's much better). Lots of loud bad music bothers you.

See it if The cast is well intermingled. Although the lead is praised I thought everyone blended together. Nice music. I was always ahead of plot.

Don't see it if You want something thought provoking. Don't like banjo/country style music. Think Steve Martin is in it (the woman behind me did :)

See it if you don't have great expectations, has surprisingly good acting, think nothing about sex has changed in 35 years

Don't see it if You want to know what today's youth are like - that was what I wanted to see. This was the world I knew in 1971. You have to pay much.

See it if You appreciate caricatures of In the Know New Yorkers. Ferguson is good; but I hate almost all the type people he portrayed. Paced well.

Don't see it if You want bang for your buck. Don't find the idea of impossible people insisting they are entitled possibly amusing.

See it if You like the very slow paced play. I like Ben Whishaw and Saoirse, but was not that impressed by them. Okonedo and Gevinson stood out.

Don't see it if You have seen other productions you really liked. You have any difficulty following plots. You are going because the reviews are so good.

See it if You enjoy musicals with lots of fine music, but not many individual songs that are memorable. You enjoy unusual stories, and story telling.

Don't see it if You're a child (under 12?), are a die hard homophobe, dislike unconventional presentations.

See it if Feel like a night of light entertainment. Nice looking performers and a broad array of songs. It is not serious at all but enjoyable.

Don't see it if You're looking for something mind expanding or extraordinary. You do not like 1960s songs.

See it if You enjoy innovative drama, expertly staged.

Don't see it if You are bothered by blinking lights.
