My ratings are the way they are because I see a lot of shows. Of course, if I was comparing these shows to local / community theatre of course every show is gonna seem like a 90. However, since I see a lot, my scores are more based off of the standards of Broadway theatre. Ultimately, I'm just trying to steer people more in the direction of what I find to be the best shows on Broadway. Think of this as a sort of guide of "okay, I have enough money for 1 show, what should I see?"
Here's a breakdown of how I score things. 90 - 100: Must Sees, these are beautiful productions whose memories I will cherish forever. I leave the theatre a changed person. 80 - 89: Great shows that I think have a lot going for them & resonate / leave an impression on me. I leave the theatre very happy I saw it. 70 - 79: Quality shows. Plenty to really enjoy, but perhaps don't seem like they'll really stick with me as experiences. Everything from here and above I would definitely recommend seeing. I leave the theatre with a smile on my face. 60 - 69: Alright shows. Nothing too spectacular, but have enough going on that I can say that they are above average. I leave the theatre decently satisfied, I suppose. 50 - 59: Mediocre shows. Leaves no real impression on me at all. Not a bad show outwardly but not really a good one either. Just sorta exists. I leave the theatre and shrug. 40 - 49: Bad shows. Not atrocious or anything, but just nothing that I would recommend. I would avoid from hereon down. I leave the theatre mildly upset. 30 - 39: Terrible shows. Nothing really to gain from these, and are amateurish in their production value. Not a lot of effort seems to have been involved in many aspects. I leave the theatre disappointed & agitated. 20 - 29: Awful shows. I know it seems like I'm just slapping on synonyms at this point but hey what can you do? Incapable shows that need a ton of work to pass. Lots of issues that are very visible. I leave the theatre actively mad at the show. 10 - 19: Insulting shows. Shows that don't belong anywhere near a professional setting. Like seeing a small community theatre perform in a professional space. I leave the theatre at intermission angrily. 0 - 9: Sophomoric shows. Literally like an elementary school production charging full broadway prices. I imagine this has never / will never happen but hoo boy if it does. I leave the theatre baffled and demanding a refund.... Read moreRead less
