See it if you want to see an original, charming take on a romance between ordinary people. It's lovely and the music is to die for.
Don't see it if you want flash and pizzazz in your musical. This one is quite calm.
See it if You're in a dark and sassy mood. Or, y'know, if you just want to see a classic with an awesome soundtrack.
Don't see it if You don't know what you're getting into, or if you're taking your kids, or if you DON'T want to see a musical number about murder.
See it if Honestly, this show is a classic. Everyone should see it, and no, the movie doesn't count.
Don't see it if You've heard the soundtrack (you probably have) and for some reason are not a fan of the songs.
See it if You want to see an adolescent microcosm in the context of a school spelling bee. Nostalgic, cute, and reminds you of your awkward years.
Don't see it if You want something a little deeper. This can be fluffy at times, but it's wonderful.
See it if You want to see Idina Menzel absolutely STUN. This show is beautifully written, beautifully staged, and the cast is immensely talented.
Don't see it if You prefer to have a very clear plot or if you're not good with multiple storylines happening simultaneously.
See it if You love the Wizard of Oz and want to get a new perspective on a classic story, with some incredible singing and set-work as well.

Don't see it if You're looking for comedy or are not a fan of clichés.
See it if You'd like a show with an infectious soundtrack that also offers insight into the Vietnam era of american history.
Don't see it if you're looking for a sunny, feel-good musical. The bright posters featuring 'let the sun shine in' are highly misleading in that way.
See it if You've seen and the Monty Python sketches. Lots of inside jokes -- can be enjoyed without having seen them, but much better if you have.
Don't see it if You don't like fart jokes or utterly ridiculous humour.
See it if you want to be wowed by a classic musical that's still very relevant
Don't see it if You're fairly young (I saw this for the first time in middle school and that was a bad call).
See it if You've had mental health issues or know someone who has, or if you want to understand the frustrations of the american mental health system.

See it if You can put aside the parts of you that may get offended in favour of amazing songs and laughing so hard you cry.
Don't see it if You're easily offended. Or if you're with your highly religious cousin and mother, like I was.
