King Kong (NYC)

"King Kong is amazing. The puppet that is. It's a mouth dropping wonder, one that comes to life right in front of you and shows more emotions and nuance than the entire cast...McOnie has pieced this epic show together with such a breakneck speed that you would think perhaps the fast-paced plot is because the world is ending...The dance style is all over the place, as is the very bad score...Yes, there's a lot of missteps...But there are some shining moments...See it for the spectacle." for a previous production “I am happy to say that whether this is truth or fiction, the entire production of ‘Gorey’ is wonderfully inspired itself...Each actor is quite magnificent, echoing each other every so lightly while keeping an originality all to themselves...Each moment of dialogue and movement is crisp and filled with small bits of magic and wonder...Get down to HERE Arts Center and see this beautifully rich and powerfully sincere 'fantasy memoir' of a fascinating man.” Full Review

for a previous production “A powerful, moving, and even funny mediation on the horror of being a POW in WWII. The dialogue is natural and the scenes are thrilling, masterfully directed by Pendleton...The entire ensemble has standout moments, and every one of them brings a powerhouse performance…Yet for all of the good, there are a few bumps in the road...Even with a few abrupt moments in Act II (including an ending that is this close to working), it doesn't diminish the power of the play.” Full Review

The God Projekt

"'The God Projekt' moves at a very slow, deliberate pace and watching it takes more than a little patience. But it rewards those who have it with a startling story and visual splendor. Augustine's performance as God is captivating and powerful...For a thoughtful, exhilarating meditation on faith, theology, and the art of being able to move on from the past, head to LaMaMa. You may not know exactly what you're seeing at the time, but I promise you it'll stay with you." Full Review

for a previous production “Being that this is improv comedy, it’s not really about the plot, it’s how well the team of improv performers weave in and out of situations with comedic flair. Which I’m happy to report they do quite well here…What is especially great is how well the ensemble work together to create dozens of small, super weird characters to keep the audience engaged and laughing…The improvised lyrics are clever, strange, and ridiculous. Which also sums up the evening.” Full Review
