See it if A strong cast doing a fine production of the play. It's long and not always successful, but valiant, well conceived and nicely performed.

Daniel's Husband
Midtown W
Cliched, Dated, Disappointing

See it if Jokes should be better. The thought should go deeper. What wants to be a play of ideas gets hampered with poor plotting. Yet I was moved!

Don't see it if Old fashioned gay plays don't appeal to you. The set's awful by the way. The guy's supposed to be a brilliant architect. Hello Pottery Barn!

Great acting, Great writing, Entertaining

See it if A beautifully acted play about Alzheimer's appeals to you. Beautiful performances all around in this well written play.

Don't see it if you only get to see one or two things a season. $$$ As fine as this show is, it seems to me to be better suited as an off-Broadway show.

Great singing, Great acting, Entertaining

See it if you wanna see two broadway legends for the price of one. They are both great. The music is nice enough, although not particularly memorable.

Don't see it if A book that seems a bit mired in historical research and anecdotes that never really takes off bothers you. Lots of funny one-liners however

See it if You want to see some of the most adept comic stage acting ever. Metcalf gives the performance of a lifetime. Howdyshell is divine.

Great staging, Beautiful design, Great acting, Great lighting, Good writing

See it if You wish to see an intelligent story beautifully told. The direction is the star here. The ending moments are beautiful.

See it if see lots of plays, or if you've done a few. It's hysterical, and altho a few jokes are groaners, most are very clever. A great night!

Great acting, Great staging, Great writing, Must see

See it if a hard story about life in working class America lovingly told by great artists appeals. The writing, acting and direction are perfect.

Don't see it if a Bruce Springsteen world view can't reach you The characters are amazing and each actor makes a great impression in roles of a lifetime.

Also Lynn Nottage has written a masterpiece.

During previews
Innovative, Disappointing

See it if you can get a reasonably priced ticket. It's innovative, but unfortunately at least at the preview I saw, the overall effect wasn't working.

Don't see it if You want a traditional production of the play. Or you have bladder issues. Two hours 10 without an intermission, which actually was ok.

Also Performances are uneven. Ms Fields seems somewhat lost to me. Jim and ... Read more Read less

The Object Lesson
East Village
Quirky, Refreshing, Absorbing, Clever, Hilarious

See it if You recognize and appreciate masterful clown work. Brilliant. The last part holds an amazing illusion as well. Wonderful.

Southern Comfort
East Village
Ambitious, Slow, Indulgent, Poorly written

See it if You wanna see another victim play. Although the performances rise above the lame ass writing and you find yourself touched by some moments.

Don't see it if Well, it closed today, so this is moot.

Antlia Pneumatica
Midtown W
Banal, Confusing, False, Pretentious

See it if Insipid drivel, dull wandering plot served up in tedious limp language. "You were slumbering, slumbering, slumbering." Weren't we all.

Don't see it if You might be afraid, as I was, that for the first time in your life you might scream out in the middle of the show, "Who cares??!!!" Agony.

See it if Great singing, beautiful production, masterful performances across the board. Well crafted.

Don't see it if You aren't into charming somewhat fluffy pieces.

Absorbing, Masterful, Must see, Heart breaking

See it if you love a brilliant performance. From the moment Danny Burstein opens his mouth to speak he enters into our heart and remains all evening.

Don't see it if you insist that the revival of a musical be done as it was done before and you hate genius choreography.

Cliched, Schlocky, Banal, Dumb

See it if You think the musical question of whether it's ok to be a tranny still needs to be debated.

Don't see it if You react if the premise of a show seems patently false.

The New Morality

Uneven, Dated, Confusing, Thought-provoking, Quirky

See it if you enjoy museum pieces. Acting is uneven with Ned Noyes a comic stand out. Other performances lack his heart and specificity of character.

Don't see it if the argument of the play is hard to follow I'm afraid.

Masterful, Profound, Must see, Absorbing

See it if It's nearly perfect. Or as perfect as it needs to be. The music, staging, performances... all of it. Will be better if you know the myth.

Don't see it if You don't like intense modern musicals. But I loved it so much.

Ambitious, Great acting, Entertaining, Enchanting, Clever

See it if One of the best musicals ever written being performed in a very clever way appeals to you. The acting is fantastically led by Steven Skybell

Don't see it if You can't handle seeing this play done in Yiddish. But it's really fun that way. And there are supertitles so it's easy to follow. Clever.

The Cradle Will Rock
East Village
Great singing, Dated.

See it if Seeing a well-made agitprop piece of theater appeals to you. It’s melodramatic and quite didactic. It addresses class struggle blatantly.

Don't see it if It’s specifically tied to Unionbusting. and although engaging and humorous in places, it makes little emotional impact.

Banal, Great singing, Fun, Embarrassing (am i really here?)

See it if There's too much material to cover in Cher's life for a few hours onstage. Events are mentioned quickly and in passing with no p.o.v.

Delightful, Funny, Absorbing, Intelligent, Must see

See it if You don’t wanna miss one of the best direct address shows I’ve ever seen... it’s basically a one person show with other actors. Biographical

See it if a huge show. the book, music, choreography and performances all come together to create a masterful evening. A seemingly old fashioned-

The Hairy Ape
Upper E Side
Ambitious, Dated, Overrated, Great staging

See it if you want to see a beautifully acted and spectacular realization of a dated play. It's an early O'Neill and a good example of expressionism.

Don't see it if you need more than just a beautiful production (that people will talk about for a long time I bet) for at the end of the day I didn't care.

See it if you enjoy clever theater. There's a puppet show that is amazing. The acting and directing are terrific, and while always funny, it's moving.

Don't see it if will identify with the universality of themes. Are they ACTUALLY WITCHES?? Adding special effects misses the entire point of the play.

Absorbing, Ambitious, Great acting, Great writing

See it if You enjoy great acting. The play seems over written, but I could have watched it for another hour. Brilliant characters finely wrought.

Don't see it if You are impatient with wandering plots.

Masterful, Great acting, Great staging, Great writing

See it if You like a devastating and hilarious examination of what it's like to be alive. A brilliant adaptation of THE SEAGULL.

Don't see it if You don't enjoy theater that is provocative and somewhat experimental.

See it if It's a shame. Show starts off well. Amazing language and wonderful performances. But the unmotivated plotting left me cold.

Don't see it if This is some sort of failed attempt at a modernized greek tragedy, but the random tragic events of the second act fail to create catharsis.
