Unfocused, Confusing, Ambitious

See it if You're interested in seeing important plays in theatre history. This is a classic.

Don't see it if The Irish accents were tough for me to get used to. It took a while to get accustomed to them.

Eye-rollingly pretentious

See it if You want a lot of noise, fog, and flashing lights in your face. Talented and attractive cast, three turntables spinning most of the time.

Don't see it if You can't stand men singing in falsetto. You can't stand pseudo-gospel music and you expect a real plot and character development.

Thrilling theatre!

See it if I saw the Abbey's production decades ago and this was far superior. Brilliant acting and direction of a profound and funny classic play.

Don't see it if you only like musicals and have no interest in anything Irish.

Clever, Delightful, Intelligent, Original, Refreshing

See it if You've been starved for a sassy show with a melodic score and a very funny script.

Don't see it if you want things dumbed-down. You won't get it.

Ambitious, Disappointing, Dated, Great acting, Funny

See it if You appreciate good actors in so-so material. Laughs and interesting ideas, but no plot, despite appealing characters. Forgettable, alas.

Don't see it if You want a well-structured play, or have no interest in gay life.

Don't see it if You can't stand cliches. The language of propaganda is cliche. Stereotypes abound, the deck is stacked. Cast inferior to the 60s one.

Also Its a lot of the same thing over and over again. Monotony sets in earl... Read more Read less

Thought-provoking

See it if It was a first play by a great writer who fulfilled his promise.

Don't see it if you're expecting a masterpiece. O'Casey still had a lot to learn.
