Don't see it if
Cast lacked energy and charisma. Surprisingly poor sound amplification
It may be unfair to compare this cast with the film cast, but I think it is sort of inevitable. The performances of Harrison, Holloway, and Hepburn are so iconic, that it is impossible not to think of them while watching. It must be very difficult for these new cast members to rise to the expectations. But sadly, none do. I found myself yearning for the casual snobbiness of Harrison, the Cockney poetry of Holloway, and the pure enchantment of Hepburn.
I was seated at the front of the dress circle, and the sound was really rather poor. Normally West End audio engineers do a spotless job of balancing the orchestra and the singers, but all in my group agreed that we missed a large percentage of the dialog. I don't know if this is a problem of microphone placement, inadequate amplification or theatre acoustics, but this really should be fixed.
