Intense, Must see, Profound, Relevant, Thought-provoking

See it if You need a good cry. This show has great, recognizable music, but is far from a frothy teen tale. A small cast leaves EVERYTHING on stage.

Don't see it if you want mindlessness or a jukebox musical. This is original, topical material about anxiety and the teen years. Be warned:tissues required.

Innovative, Entertaining, Quirky, Funny, Clever

See it if You are looking for a show that will challenge your perceptions of theater. This is a NY/International institution for good reason.

Don't see it if You need things like plot, words, or silence to feel like you've had a meaningful theatrical experience. The show can be loud for some.

Ambitious, Profound, Relevant, Thought-provoking

See it if You appreciate the importance of art transcending politics. Bonus if you appreciate Yiddish theatre.

Don't see it if You have a problem following a non-linear plot structure--the play time travels a bit--or if you like your theatre light.

For a previous production
Great acting, Great staging, Clever, Hilarious, Dizzying

See it if You like your comedy British, broad, fast and physical.

Don't see it if You prefer crying to laughing, or if physical comedy is not your thing.

Also If you've ever done live theatre, this show is your most fevered night... Read more Read less

Confusing, Disappointing, Quirky, Slow, Great singing

See it if You didn't get to experience Pippa Soo in "Hamilton." She is LUMINOUS. The cast is wonderful too--strong performances.

Don't see it if You can't sit straight through for 2 hours (no intermission), especially when a show is as strange and the music as unaffecting as this.

Entertaining, Funny, Great singing, Overrated

See it if You're a fan of the Wizard of Oz; if you're a GLEE fan; if you're looking for a show for the whole family.

Don't see it if You don't enjoy spectacle. A bit overhyped and inconsistent--the big songs are hummable, the rest of the score is just OK.

East Village
Clever, Great staging, Original, Refreshing, Must see

See it if You hear the music of the world around you, you enjoy dance and rhythm, and you appreciate creativity and high energy.

Don't see it if You like your theatre conventional and sedate.

Slow, Resonant, Relevant, Absorbing, Profound

See it if You have somehow missed seeing this show before. This is a worthwhile, loving retelling of a theatre staple, thoughtfully performed.

Don't see it if You're looking for Zero Mostel in the lead, or can't deal with supertitles. (The show is performed in Yiddish.)

See it if You are a fan of Sorkin, Daniels or To Kill A Mockingbird. The storytelling is excellent, the cast is generally terrific.

Don't see it if You hated the book. CAVEAT: The theatre may also be an issue: the Shubert is a steeply raked house with no elevator.

Entertaining, Great staging, Great singing

See it if You are a fan of the early days of rock n roll, or if you need a refresher course.

Don't see it if You're not up for singing and smiling for two hours.

Disappointing, Great singing, Overrated, Slow

See it if you are taking a young child to his or her first Broadway show. It is absolutely familiar territory for anyone raised on Disney.

Don't see it if You can see anything else. The cast works hard, but after the inital WOW over Julie Taymor's puppeteering creations, it's a letdown.

Hamilton (NYC)

Great staging, Great singing, Great acting, Great writing, Must see

See it if Your tastes in theatre run toward classics & epics. Don't be put off by the "rap musical" hype--the score has something for everyone. 10/10

Don't see it if A jukebox or Disney musical is your idea of the best of Broadway because it's easy to digest. There is a LOT of material here--come hungry.

Aladdin (Broadway)

Delightful, Entertaining, Enchanting

See it if You want a few hours of magical entertainment delivered by a high energy cast. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it!

Don't see it if You want something totally unpredictable. This is Disney: expect great sets, catchy music and a happy ending.

Slow, Disappointing, Cliched

See it if I love: the music, Alfie Boe, and Earl Carpenter, who played Javert the night we attended.

Don't see it if You loved the original cast, staging, or any of the concerts. The current version is inconsistent & has contrivances where none are needed.
