Puts you in a holiday "spirit", Family-friendly, Fun and festive frolic, Charming and clever, Full of heart

See it if you need something family-friendly, festive, and full of cutesy-clever moments; enjoy Charles Dickens and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle stories.

Don't see it if expecting super-silly and/or super-clever storytelling or suspense; this is an intelligent mash-up of Dickens and Doyle, but lighter. Read more

Great holiday show, Fun, Delightful, Entertaining, Clever

See it if you think you’d enjoy the titular mashup of Dickens and Doyle, want to know what happened to Tiny Tim, or enjoy Christmas or mysteries

Don't see it if you are a Dickens or Doyle purist, prefer serious dramas, or don’t have any holiday spirit. But see this anyway, bah humbug!

"The show is joyful, playful, and clever, and it's clear just how much fun Shanahan and the cast are having — and that joy transfers to the audience. 'A Sherlock Carol' invites you to 'the holiday spirit' — and you do."

"3/5 Stars...Shanahan's wreathing of these icons is fun...Clad in Linda Cho's handsome period costumes, against scenic designer Anna Louizos' simple Victorian London backdrop, the six actors give spirited performances and even sing a few carols...Yet 'A Sherlock Carol' never really transcends its inspirations. Too often, it feels oddly perfunctory and distant."

"4 stars! The elegant Anna Louizos set, with its false proscenium and myriad set-pieces carried on and carted away by the cast, is perfect. Linda Cho’s seemingly endless array of quickly changed costumes is perfect. Charles G. Lapointe’s hair and wig designs are perfect. John Gromada’s sound and original music are perfect. As for the cast members: perfect...Dear Santa, All I want for Christmas is a lifelong subscription to A Sherlock Carol."

Part of the fun of A Sherlock Carol is that it is an entirely new Christmas stage offering taken from well-known stories, as well as seeing four of the actors continually returning in unexpected roles. With its array of beautifully sung Christmas carols, A Sherlock Carol is a new and worthy addition to the holiday season, a must for lovers of Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes and Dickens’ Ebenezer Scrooge.
