About the show

Broadway's 2004 Tony Award winner for Best Musical continues its hilarious, puppet-filled run Off-Broadway at New World Stages. More…

This grown-up musical comedy stars a cast of humans and puppets, and tells the timeless story of a bright-eyed college grad named Princeton. When he arrives in the city with big dreams and a tiny bank account, he has to move into a shabby apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. There he meets Kate (the girl next door), Lucy (the slut), Rod (the Republican), Trekkie (the pervert), superintendent Gary Coleman (yes, that Gary Coleman) and other new friends. Together, they struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life.

Dated, Disappointing, Talented performers, Cute set

See it if to see what this show is all about, I'd never seen it and that is why I went. I was impressed by the performers, Gizel Jimenez in particular

Don't see it if lots of references (Gary Coleman?) really dated. Not that funny, although may have been groundbreaking at the time. But glad I saw it.

Also Hard to watch the puppets when the actors are right there. But cute id... Read more Read less

Raunchy, Quirky, Overrated, Disappointing, Excruciating

See it if enjoy cheap vulgar humor

Don't see it if you expect memorable melodies and substance from a musical

69
Funny, Fluffy, Disappointing, Clever

See it if you're into potty mouth muppets which is really the novelty of the show. Maybe it's "clever" but only in a "shock value" way.

Don't see it if you expect more for shows than trying to be outrageous and get cheap laughs by being foul mouthed instead of smart and witty.

Clever, Original, Quirky, Raunchy

See it if you are looking for something unique

Don't see it if you hate puppets and/or raunchy humor

65
Overrated, Original

See it if you want to laugh at a bunch of overused unoriginal jokes. Unique and original idea, definitely not like any other shows.

Don't see it if you expect it to live up to the hype. Way overrated.

65
Meh, Dated, Entertaining, Cliched, Raunchy

See it if It hasn't been that many years, but this show is feeling dated. If it weren't for Sesame Street-esque puppets, it wouldn't be that funny.

Don't see it if You want 3 dimensional characters or a plot or complexity of themes. But for broad parody, it's fine.

62
Entertaining, Clever, Hilarious, Edgy, Quirky

See it if you want to delight in raunchy cleverness.

Don't see it if you're looking for compelling staging; characters would frequently not face the audience.

Entertaining, Original, Clever, Overrated, Raunchy

See it if you like adult puppet shows, don't mind hearing raunchy dialogue spoken by puppets, you were a fan of Sesame St. & you're a recent univ grad

Don't see it if raunchy dialogue spoken by puppets is not your thing, you don't like musicals about recent college grads having tough times, puppets bore u.

Disappointing, Overrated, Uncomfortable

See it if you like a group of puppets who speak with inappropriate language.

Don't see it if you want to be entertained....

Excruciating, Overrated, Quirky, Raunchy, Disappointing

See it if If you're familiar with Sesame Street and find using puppets as a form of stand-up comedy, you'll love this. I was bored much of the time.

Don't see it if If unfamiliar with Sesame St, much of the show will mean little to nothing. If puppets doing sex acts aren't funny, even if not offensive -

65
Clever, Overrated, Thought-provoking

See it if you enjoy a new type of show. Great for kids. If you love puppets.

Don't see it if you expect great music, great staging but want an entertaining evening, see it. Don't love puppets - miss this show.

Clever, Disappointing, Raunchy, Entertaining, Overrated

See it if You like sketch, ethnic, college humor, great original puppetry. Twenty somethings, raised on Sesame Street.

Don't see it if you expect the sparkling, clever show it was once. Dated, over-the-top dirty, sophmoric, wears thin and it doesn't end ...

Clever, Dated, Overrated, Quirky

See it if You're in the mood for something light

Don't see it if You don't like cliche

62
Disappointing, Fluffy, Insipid, Quirky, Raunchy

See it if puppets were cute

Don't see it if very crude

65
Disappointing, Funny, Raunchy, Entertaining, Tired

See it if I love the soundtrack, but the show is showing its age and Off-Broadway-ness. Honestly, it might be time to retire the show.

Don't see it if If you don't like bad language or puppet sex, probably not the show for you.

64
Cliched, Disappointing, Funny, Quirky, Slow

See it if the songs are cute and some of the jokes are pretty funny.

Don't see it if I thought the story was a bit boring - the songs were funny enough, but the story itself was a typical romance without much else to offer

Clever, Original, Disappointing, Entertaining, Funny

See it if They had such a good idea but they didn't take it far enough. It could have gone so much further over the top.

Don't see it if It felt like someone was concerned it wouldn't be "family friendly" and cleaned up what could have been hysterical.

60
Disappointing, Stupid

See it if You like silly puppets

Don't see it if You want to see a good show!

62
Clever, Overrated

See it if you have 'edgy' taste, want something a bit offbeat

Don't see it if you want a show with emotional heart rather than bite

65
Dated, Disappointing, Fluffy, Insipid, Great singing

See it if You are a die hard fan of musicals - this one has good energy, show tune music, and a good cast. Also good for people who like muppets.

Don't see it if You might find a cast wearing hand puppet muppets and singing through them a bit too silly, especially as they work through gay issues.

68
Entertaining, Dated, Quirky

See it if You don't feel guilty laughing at non-PC jokes, you want an approachable show, you miss the late 90s/early 2000s

Don't see it if You are with your kids or grandparents, you have not-so-fond memories of Sesame Street, you're over cliches

56
Clever, Cliched, Confusing

See it if you have dirty humor

Don't see it if you dont like dirty humor

68
Cliched, Dated, Clever

See it if You like puppets pretending to be adults

Don't see it if You don't want to see puppets being too cute with language and sexual situations.

50
Disappointing, Dizzying, Insipid

See it if you like to watch puppets

Don't see it if if you prefer to watch real human beings perform...I was bored

67
Dated, Funny, Lighthearted, Raunchy, Quirky

See it if You enjoy crude humor, similar to The Book of Mormon.

Don't see it if You want a family friendly show.

"They may have no legs of their own, but darned if those fuzzy creatures aren’t still standing, long after more full-bodied competition has bitten the dust...And they remain surprisingly fresh (in all senses of the word), even for someone who, like me, has now spent many hours in their company." ...

"Of all the musicals hatched in the post-2000 age of irony, this cheeky satire of children’s television shows like “Sesame Street” has arguably remained the freshest and funniest. Returning to its Off Broadway origins, the 2004 Tony winner shows no discernible signs of downsizing and no loss of h...

"The show remains both fresh and timely—I know plenty of twentysomethings who are having at least as much trouble getting work as did their older brothers and sisters—and its digs at political correctness are, if anything, even more pointed today. I enjoyed it every bit as much as when I first sa...
